Railroad Construction Figures.
The amount of railroad built in the United States during 1909 was 8,874 miles. Of this, Texas claims 666 miles; Nevada, 808 miles; California, 847, and Washington, 168. But ten of the other states were provided with as much as 100 miles of new road. Canada built 1,487 miles of railroad, Mexico 281 miles, and Panama ntne miles. The fact that 48 miles of railroad was built in Alaska is notable.
