Five new students were added to the list during the last week, one a representative from Nebraska, the ether from the far-away shores of the Adriatic Sea. Rev. J. Toujas and Prof. L. Havooka spent Wednesday afternoon in Chicago observing the Wright Bros.’ aerial flights. They reported thrilling experiences and elevating sensations. A goodly number of the S. J. C. inmates were present at Senator M. E. Clapp’s political discourse at the opere house on Wednesday evening. There are on the football squad. There is sufficient material to work up a good team, but Coach Grathwohl finds it difficult to bring home to the green tryouts the mysterious workings of the revised rules. No games have as yet been scheduled. At the organization of the Raleigh Smoking Club, J. Goetz was chosen president, T. Kennedy, vice-president, C. Reed, secretary, C. Grathwohl, marshall. Rev. T. About 25 of our people took in the Chicago excursion Sunday. Joe Burns and wife are haying an addition built to their house. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Gundy were it? Rensselaer a couple of days this week. Mrs. Cottingham visited her mother and family near Brookston over Sunday. The pickles are about aill gathered and what are not will soon be nipped by frost. Emery Cox and family have moved into the Moore property in the north part of town. Walter »McKannell and wife and baby spent several days in Cissna Park this week. The Mallatt hall is being- fitted up preparatory to putting in a'stock of merchandise there. • |- Mrs. Kight has just returned from a trip to Indianapolis, where her son John is now living. N. A. McKay was called to Kirklin last Friday by the death of his stepfather, R. L. Gallaher. Mrs. Dan Wood has gone for a few weeks’ visit with her daughter and son in North Dakota. Mrs. James Allen is staying in Rensselaer at present and taking treatment for heart trouble. Mrs. Wm. Warren returned this week from Watseka, where she has been visiting for a week. Miss Cora Trump was taken to Chicago Saturday to a hospital to be treated for appendicitis. Jim Wildrix and wife have sold their household goods to Sharp Hanley and will probably settle in the west some where. Mr. and Mrs. Litner and son Johnnie went to Wheatfield Wednesday to stay awhile with their daughter, Mrs. VanDuzen.
Can Manderville, who has been in Roselawn nearly all summer, has come home to stay with his grandmother this winter. Mrs. Jacob Trump and Mrs. Chas. Barker went to Chicago Wednesday to look after Cora Trump, who is in a hospital there. School has commenced with a very good attendance. Miss McCullough is principal, Miss Brusnahan intermediate and Miss Pennington primary. Mr. R. J. Ibison, who has been visiting numerous relatives in Indiana for the past four weeks, returned to his home in Riverside, Cal., this week.
