High School Football Team To Have First Game Oct. 8th.
James Ellis, Jr., is acting student manager of the high school football team and reports that he has already arranged two games, the first of which will be played at Riverside Athletic Park Saturday of next week, Oct. Sth. The opposing team will be Watseka high school, which insures a fine game and a hard one too for the locals. On 'Nov. sth Momence, HL, will be our opponents here. The intervening dates have not yet been scheduled, but letters have been received asking for games from Lake High, of Chicago, Sotfth Chicago and Austin High/ It is probable that each of these will be given an opportunity to come to Rensselaer. The home schedule will probably consist of five or six games and one or two games will be played by the team at other places. The fact that the home team is not in the association will not keep it from having plenty of good games, better, in fact, than they had with the teams belonging to it. Rice Porter has been acting as the regular coach, while Rue Parcels, who has seen a game played under the new rules and who has been coaching Missouri Military Academy, has been giving some assistance. The team will line up about as follows: Center—Paul Beam, captain. Guards—McCarthy, Miller, Hamilton, Moore. Tackles—Ellis, Hemphill. Ends-—Smith, Hanley, Adams, Duvall. Quarterback—Robinson, York. Backs—Colvert, Porter, Parks. The new rules have made considerable difference in the game and it is hoped that the game will be less dangerous and at the same time all the intense rivalry be preserved.
