The Fraternal Order of Eagles of Indiana is holding its fifth annual convention in Richmond, with more than 2,000 iti attendance. The Evansville board of- education has decided to pay Frank W. Cooley, recently removed from the superintendency of the Evansville schools, his ’ salary up to the end of his contract term, August 1. Secretary Dickinson left Washington Thursday night for a tour of the world. The objective point will be the Philippine islands, where he will spend five weeks familiarizing himself with conditions there. In Indiana, according to a report of the census bureau, there are 555 church organizations that conduct religious servicesfn foreign languages. Indiana is fifteenth among the states in this respect, Minnesota leading with 2,793. While Hugh Bickel, a 15 year old Union City boy, was trying to extract the bullet from a 32 calibre cartridge Wednesday with a penknife, the cart-Ttdge-exploded. The bullet penetrated his breast and he died in five minutes. . A rural mail carrier, of Findley, 0., has secured--a patent on a magnetic railroad system that he claims will revolutionize railroad travel. With his system he says a speed of from 200 to 300 miles an hour can be maintained with safety and at reasonable rates. „ Because congress refuses to adjorn, the Thirteenth district democratic congressional convention, to have been held in South Bend next Wednesday has been indefinitely postponed for the third time. The convention will not be held until A. Barnhart can attend. The Wabash college commencement ended Wednesday morning with the conferring of degrees upon the fortytwo members of the senior class. A number of honorary degrees were bestowed upon several alumni. Prof. James Haydon Tufts, head of the department of philosophy at Chicago university, delivered the commencement address. Governor Haskell, of Oklahoma last night issued a proclamation declaring the capital location bill carried and officially declared Oklahoma City to have recieved the greatest number of votes. The proclamation is based upon the complete returns furnished the_governor by the state election board. The measure carried by approximately 33,000 majority. Drivers of automobiles who exceed the speed limit in Shelbyville have been coming to grief recently, and the latest case was one in which Orville Sells, of Anderson, entered a plea of guilty over the telephone to a justice the pfeace in Shelbyville and settled a fine of $27.75 to the Shelbyville chief of police, who was there to arrest him. The state board of medical examination and registration will meet June 21 to pass on charges of immorality preferred against Dr. Eugene Redlinger, of Huntington, the purpose being to have his license revoked. According to information which has been received by the board, Redinger has been convicted and sentenced to the penitentiary for criminal acts in connection with the practice of medicine. The Franklin college board of directors has issued a formal call to Dr. Elijah A. Hanley, of Providence, R. 1., to the presidency of the school. The board has also agreed to increase the endowment to $500,000. Dr. Hanley is one of the first Baptist preachers of the country, and is at the present time pastor of the Providence Baptist church. He is an alumnus of Franklin, having graduated in the class of 1895.
