A Liquor License Picnic.
The commissioners began at 2 o'clock on Monday with liquor licenses and by closing time had allowed 188, and 134 of them were for Gary. On account of flaws five from Gary missed fire, and one from Hammond and Whiting each. They were laid on the shelf. Outside of Gary 54 licenses were issued. Very few remonstrances were in. One was filed against Chas. Sigler at Cedar Lake by Joe Hoffman, but that flashed out on account of the remonstrator living in Center township while the license was asked for in Hanover. During the afternoon SIB,BOO was deposited in Lake county’s strong box, which goes to the state school fund and Auditor Johnson collected $5 from each one ($940) which is turned over to the county and put into the auditor’s fund. It was a great time and everything seemed satisfactory to all concerned when time was called.—Crown Point Star. In less than fifteen minutes’ time the senate Wednesday considered and passed the pension appropriation bill, carrying about $155,000,000. Senator Scott said that 31,000 pensioners had, died last year.
