Critser Elected Nightwatch; New Ordinances Are Passed.
The city council Monday night elected Frank as nightwatch to succeed E. M. Thomas. All members of the council voted for Mr. Critser, and only one other name was placed before the council, that of Chas. W. Platt. The council set the hours of work to begin at 7 o’clock P. M. and to conclude with 5 o’clock A. M. Mr. Critser will begin work this Tuesday night. He has had some police experience in Tennessee and has a good understanding of the wort and the appointment should prove a very satisfactory one. Mr. Thomas expects to work in town this summer and begin farming another year. He has made a capable nightwatch and leaves the office with a clean record. The light superintendent was directed to instal lights in the commercial club rooms without change for light rentals. Ordinance No. 130 regulating the sale of fireworks and 131 relating to public health were passed to the third , reading. An ordinance providing for the letting of contract for hauling the city coal Was passed under suspension of rules. It provides that the contract shall be let to the lowest and best bidder by the ton for one year. It is the intention after the contract is let to use the fire team on the streets only.
