Some New Book for Adults.
African Nature Notes, by F. C. Selous. A remarkable record of the adventures of one of the greatest biggame hunters of the last half century. The story of a lifetime’s experiences is told simply and with a sympathetic insight into the lives of the animals and of the wild tribes. The minute and careful observations on animal habits and instincts are a valuable contribution to the subject. The Fireless Cook Book, by M. J. Mitchell. It includes also chapters on measuring, tables of weights and measures and of proportions, recipes for the sick, cooking in large quantities and time table for cooking different classes of food. Adrift on an Ice-pan, by W. T. Greiv fell. A day and night on a block of “sisk” ice, drifting out to sea, and a brave rescue by a volunteer crew of his much-loved fisherman furnished experience and emotions that are simply and modestly recounted in this small volume.
