Auto Trip to Lafayette Proves Both Interesting and Profitable.
Through the courtesy of Ed Randle, of Barkley township, the writer, in company with D. S. Makeever and Geo. W. Bond, accompanied him to I-afayette via automobile Saturday. The trip down was made by the way of Remington, Wolcott and Montmorenci and the return trip by Montmorenci, Otterbein, Templeton and Remington. The object of the trip was to attend the semi-annual meeting of the state cattle feeders’ association at the Purdue experimental station. After several lectures had been delivered dealing with the experiments in the various kinds of food for cattle, the auditors were taken to the pens and shown the different groups of cattle. Six differents rations had been fed to the cattle covering a period of 160 days. All the rations contained some cotton seed meal, which is regarded at the station as very essential to the best results. Charts were prepared showing the ration in each group, the amount and kind and the daily gain on the cattle. Experts were there and rated the cattle at present selling value and the profit on each group was then deducted, showing which ration had proved most profitable. Probably 300 stockmen were at the station, including besides those mentioned above, Gr&nville Moody, John Parkison, Alpha Chrislley, of Jasper county. William Washburn, S. E. Sparling, Frank Hill and George Babcock started down, but had trouble with the former’s machine, occasioned by bursting inner tubes and did not reach their destination
