Former Gillam Township Citizen Honored by Emperor of Germany.

Medaryville Advertiser. Word reached Washington on Wednesday of last week from Germany that former congressman George W. Faris, of Terre Haute, a pear relative of the Faris families in this community, and himself reared in Gillam township, has been designated by Emperor William, of Germany, as a member of the guard of honor to the Krieger Bund, the American members of which will visit Germany in a few w£eks as the guests of the German people and the Kaiser in particular. The Krieger Bund is an association similar to the Grand Army of the Republic. Its members are veteran soldiers who fought for the fatherland in the Franco-Prussian war. It is explained in communications received from Germany that Emperor William is personally directing the reception to be accorded the Krieger Bund and its escort in all parts of the German Empire. Emperor Wilhelm proposes to show that while Germans who evade the military service will be punished on the one hand, those who serve their country In time of war shall be highly honored. Accordingly the plans for the reception of the returning heroes are being arranged on a scale more elaborate than has ever been attempted. _ The returning veterans and its continental soldier representatives accompanying them, who will wear the buff and blue uniform of the American revolution, will be the guests of honor at a review of the German army. The visitors will be received at the courts of the twenty-six kings or grand dukes of the twenty-six states or provinces. At all times during their three months’ stay in the Empire they will be tbe personal guests of Emperor William. The members of the Krieger Bund to the number of about 200 will embark at New York May 11th, on the Hamburg-Amerlcan liner Pennsylvania, and will land at Hamburg. Special new buildings are being erected by the German government for features of the entertainment of the visitors including a great patriotic festival. Along the twenty-six miles between the ocean and Hamburg cannon are being placed at intervals of a few yards apart, and as the steamer proceeds up the stream, there will be a constant thunder of artillery.
