OLD RESIDENT OF GILLAM TOWNSHIP PASSES AWAY.

William Comer, Who Was Born In Jasper County In 1848, Died at Medaryville Thursday. William Comer, one of the oldest residents of Jasper county and also one of the first men born in this county, died at his home in Medaryville Thursday morning at 7 o’clock. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Independence school house in Gillam township and burial was made in the Independence cemetery. Deceased leases a wife and five children, one son and four daughters, all grown to maturity. He was a brother of Malachi P., of Barkley township, and Stephen and Barney, of Union township. Another brother is .lames Comer, of Pawnee, Okla., while Mrs. Nancy J. Boston, of Santa Monica, Cal., is a sister. William Comer was born in Barkley township 67 years ago and moved with his parents to Gillam township shortly afterward and resided there until about eight years ago when he took up his residence in Medaryyille, where he resided until his death. He suffered a stroke of paralysis about two years ago and this was responsible for his death. Mr. Comer was one of the best known stock buyers Jasper county ever had, buying cattle for many years in Jasper and Pulaski counties. He was one of the first men born in Jasper county, his parents having come here in the early forties.
