Lafayette wants to get an automobile factory now located at Indianapolis to locate in Lafayette. In order to get it they must sell $175,000 worth of stock, and this they have set out to do. t W. H. Snow and wife and two daughters, of North Dakota, who have been visiting relatives and old friends and neighbors in Jasper coudty the past three weeks, went to Roseville today to visit her father, Jacob Hurrey, and family. W. N. Jordan, of Barkley township, is quite sick with pneumonia. He has been in town a time or two within the past week mid was planning to be here to take the civil service examination for census enumerator tomorrow. He was taken sick Thursday noon. Mrs. Mary E. Spitler returned yesterday from Oklahoma City, Okla., where she had been since fall yislting her sort, M. L. Spitler, and wife. She returned via the M. EDWIN M. LEE ELECTED REPUBLICAN STATE CHAIRMAN
Former Mayor of Lawrenceburg Will Lead Republican Hosts Through Coming Campaign In Indian^. Edwin M. Lee, Chairman. Henry W. Bennett, Vice-Chairman. Frank p. Stalnaker, Treasurer. John F. Hayes, Secretary. The republican district chairman, constituting the state central committee met in Indianapolis Thursday and effected their organization for the oncoming campaign by electing the above officers. Mr’ Lee is the former mayor of Lawrenceburg and his election was without opposition. Mr. Lee stated that he would give his best effort to the success of the party, that he would be the chairman of the whole party and not the chairman of any faction. *
Senator Beveridge addressed the meeting and argued for republican success, pledging the committeemen to their greatest effort and for harmony. He said that he loved the republican party and that it meant a great deal to him but that republican success in Indiana meant that he would remain an instrument for the advancement of human welfare. Chairman Lee announced that he will open state republican headquarters in Indianapolis about March Ist, and get right down to “brass tacks” in order to effect the organization that will bring about complete republican success this fall.

Jim Clark, who was delayed in the work on his new Weston street cottage by the bad weather, has had it plastered this week and will be able to move into it shortly. Walter Wellman, the egotistical newspaper correspondent, who blustered a great deal about his intention to reach tlfk north pole by means of a balloon, now proposes to go from New York to London in a flying machine. There are a lot of people who, won’t care how soon he starts if he will just stop talking about it. J. C. Frazee, of Peru, Ind., is here on a hurried trip to look after a new tenant for his Barkley township farm, which Samuel Holmes %ill vacate in order to move to North Dakota. He rented the farm to Will Whittaker, the efficient young deputy postmaster, who has decided that outdoor work will be better for him. The change will be made about March Ist. Miss True George, who is employed at the Jasper Savings & Trust Co., has been confined to her home since Sunday, and a specialist was called from Chicago Tuesday to consult with the local physician. The result of his examination has not been made public. It is hoped by the many friends of the young lady that her sickness does not prove seiious. ■ Chas. S, Baker came over from Mt. Ayr this morning, driving his International automobile, - which he says has given him splendid satisfaction. C.,A. Penwright and daughter accompanied him here. Mr. Penwright says there will be considerable building in the way of barns on farms in his neighborhood this'year and he has already made plans for two or three. TOM McCOY REPORTED $75,000 WINNER ON WHEAT.
Former Banker is Said to Have Cleared That Amount From Speculations on Recent Market. William Donlin, a grain buyer of Delphi, was in Rensselaer Thursday and stated that he knew that Tom J. McCoy, the former Rensselaer banker, who has been a scalper in the Union Stock Yards in Chicago, since his release from the penitentiary last June, had made $75,000 last week by speculation on the wheat market. Mr. Donlin is reported to have said here that he himself made $20,000 in wheat at tire name time. There was a variation of three or four cents in the price of wheat as quoted on the board of trade last week. It first went down and then up and Tom is said to have caught it on the rise. Whether or not this is the case, no one here seems to know., but Donlin is said to have reported it as a fact. That is a powerful lot of money and if T<Jfh gets his fingers on it, it is to he hoped that he will use it judiciously.

Fair tonight and Saturday. Mrs. Leslie Clark and Mrs. Charles Morlan Thursday afternoon entertained the Pythian Sisters in a very -pleasant manner at the home of the former on Franklin street. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Blue returned this morning from New Boston, 111., where for-the past three-months-they - have been with their daughter, Mrs. V. G. Patterson. They report that all the eastern part of Illinois is still covered with snow and that there is good sleighing over most of the northern haif of the state. Mr. Blue was surprised to find Rensselaer and vicinity so almost entirely free from snow and ice. >

Madaline Abbott went to Monticello this afternoon to visit her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Landis. They will have been married 40 years next Sunday and the event made the occasion qf a family reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Abbott and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Robinson, of this place will go 4here, while other children from Chicago and Delphi will also he there. And Arthur Landis and family, who moved last year to Plainview, Texas, were expected to return from there today. Arthur and family and Tom Ronneiry and family, ot Monticello, bought land in Texas and moved there last year. They had very successful crops, but they did not like Texas, and they have sold out and returned to good old Indiana.
