Two Examinations for Enumerators At the Court House Saturday.
Postmaster Murray informs us that the Supervisor of the Census for this district has informed him that cards have been issued to forty-five for the examination which will be held Saturday. On this account it will be necessary that two examinations be held, one at 10 o’clock and one at 2 o’clock. The examinations will be held in the court house. From those taking the examinations will be selected the enumerators for Jasper (County. Moses Chupp and sods, Dan and Ora, have about decided to go to Montana within a few weeks with a view to taking a government claim. They have been talking to Sam PulTins and think the move advisable. Mose has had a bad cose of grip and his son, Dan, has had trouble in shaking off a bad cough and as two of the Chupp daughters died of consumption they think some other climate might be safer for them. If they decide to go they will locate before having their families join them. Boozeless Gary is not satisfied. The fact that that town is now officially dry does not prevent boozing. The foreign and largely transcient element that constitutes the population of that city will have booze once or more a week if they have to fight for it. They find it an easy matter to go to one of the other nearby towns, load up with booze and fill the trains returning to Gary with smoke, slime and profanity. We are for temperance, but doubt if there is any good of having a town like Gary dry, when the other towns about are wet and when so much of the population is the kind that will drink as long as it is manufactured.
