Editor Reddick and Sons Have An Experience That Will Linger.

Starke County Republican. Editor Riddick, of the Winamac Republican, and his two sons had an experience the other day the odor of which will linger with them another week yet. The boys had been out the day before hunting rabbits with a ferret. The little rabbit chaser was finally put into a hole in the ground which he refused to leave, and the boys were compelled to go away and leave him. Editor Riddick, who is a farmer and owns a long-handled shovel, concluded that it would be fun to go out with his sons and help them excavate for the recalcitrant ferret. They sank numerous shafts to the main tunnel in search, of their quarry and finally struck something powerfully rich. In-, stead of their find being the, missing ferret, it proved to be a pair of pole cats. Now a pole cat is recorded as being incapable of doing an adversary great bodily harm, but it is mentioned of him that, under proper provocation, he can charge that atmosphere with an odor most offensive. This the little animals proceeded to do! Napoleon's retreat from Moscow was as nothing compared with the retreat of the Riddicks from the winter quarters of the pole cats. The ferret Is still missing and Editor Riddiek and Ms sons are wearing new clothes. The family now buys its rabbits Sown at the meat market.

John Smith, the painter, who went to New Mexico several weeks ago, returned home Wednesday evening. His family are still at Urban*, IIL. but will join him here shortly. While in New Mexico he stopped at Silver City, a mining town in the southwestern part of the territory. He liked the climate and enjoyed good health while there.’ He took a mining claim of 16 acres near Silver City. The claim had already been filed hpon about a dozen times before but former claimants had regarding that mining operations be started, if John proves up the claim he will he required to visit it each year and sink a ten foot square shaft. His claim is ▼ell located, |n the neighborhood of several paying silver' and -copper mines.
