COLLEGEVILLE.
All the elocution classes attended Mr. King’s lecture at the M. E. church, and were highly gratified to behold thST exempliflcatiofa of the theories with which they had been wrestling. * The chapel work Is again delayed. The glass for the nave windows was not cut into proper sizes, and hence it was useless. The new consignment is expected this week. Mr. Byron W. King delightfully entertained the faculty and students in the college hall Saturday morning. The drift of his interesting talk was the usefulness of oratory as the fine art of expression. The salient points that he wished to bring home to his hearers were happily illustrated. The Wabash high school was defeated by the Varsity in the &ymnasium by the score of 19 to 10 last Saturday afternoon. It was a hard clean game, and only towards the end of (he second half did the locals begin to pile up the score.
On las£ Sunday the C. L. S. held their first regular meeting after the recess. The play to be rendered next commencement was the important subject discussed. Mr. Honan attended. The society gladly listened to an address on German universities by Dr. James H. Honan. On Monday evening Dr. Honan delivered a lecture to the inmates of the college on Hygiene in the making of -the Better Man. Hd was listened to attentively for it is not often that they have the honor of listening to the discussion of a distinguished professor of Europe on a subject that he has made his particular study for years. On Tuesday evening Co. M defeated the Varsity in a hotly contested game 37 to 42 at the armory. The Varsity did not show its usual speed and when they did warm up the opponent’s lead was so great that they could not overcome it. Next Jan. 22, St. Mary’s Athletic Club, of Ft. Wayne, will play the Varsity inHhe gymuasium. It will, no doubt, be a high class game, for in the line-up of the visitors there will be several old S. J. C. stars. The game will be called at 7:30.
