Hollingsworth' returned this morning from Kalamazoo. His father-in-law, O. M. Allen, had a sinking spell Monday night and is still in a precarious condition. E. church here. . > Sheriff Shirer went to Logansport today, taking with him Tilda Zimmerman, of Remington, for recommitment at Longdiffe. She was brought, by relatives to Reynolds, where he met them. She was confined in Longcliffe about 14 months previously. Indiana has 2,119 rural mall delivery routes, which is about onetwentieth of the number of routes in all the states. On only two of the Indiana routes was the number of pieces of mail carried last year less than 9,000. Route No. 1 at Upland, Ind., Is given a place on the roll of honor, the carrier in three months having carried 86,239 pieces of mail. George Michael, who has been in the west for the past two years, came yesterday evening to visit his mother, Mrs. Laura Michael. He was accompanied home by V. H. Sanderson, and after a short visit here both will return to Monte Vista, Colo., where George will remain until March Ist, when he will return here, and with his mother move to her farm, where Julius Huff now lives. If army maneuvers for the militia are conducted this year It Is quite probable that they will not be held at Fort Benjamin Harrison, as the adjutant-generals of ! Wisconsin, Illinois smd Michigan have petitioned, the war department against sending their troops to that post. If the field maneuvers are held it is probable that the Indiana National Guard will be sent to Ludington, Mich.
At the Purdue corn show Wednesday prizes were awarded according to districts. The first district includes all the counties in northern Indiana, and Bert Miller, of Brook, won first prize on yellow corn, and P. B. Milligan, of Kentland, on white corn, Newton county winning both prizes. The sweepstakes prizes went to J. D. Whitesides, of Franklin, for white corn, and C. A Brown, also of Franklin, for yellow corn. Whitesides also won the grand sweepstakes, while the grand championship went to J. W. Kerlin, of Rockfield.
