SAtTiLo.The only description we ba?e seen of Saltillo is the following which - we find in a" letter from that city to the . New Orleans Picayune:"
! will give you a few lines descriptive of this place, which is pleasantly situated on an inclined plane at the foot of a very steep bill, of a sufficient height to command a fine view of the town.- Some portions of it are beauf tiful, the bouses constructed with a good deal 'of taste, particularly those around the main plaza, while jhose "in; the surburbs, 'though well constructed for comfort, have a desolate appearance, being built of son-baked brick. The Cathredal, by far the largest and most magnificent one in this part of Mexico, is yet unfinished. It is too rich for any description of , mine to do justice to. It is divided into two apartments, in each of which is an altar made entirely of silver. Gilt, biass and bronze work, interspersed with images and all sorts of ornaments, covers the entire wall in the rear of the altars. Beautiful oil paintings, statues, and rich carved ornaments of every dezcription decorate the building. There are two cupolas, with nine, bells in each, and the yard in front is decorated with fine cedar trees. The plaza in tro.it is also handsomely arranged with fine trees around it. In the centre is a fountain and reservoir where those living in the vicinity of the plaza get their water, there are two smaller chur ches in town, but 1 have not yet visited them. uur army is very well provided lor iu as comfortable quarters as the city alTurds. ADVERTISING. There is no point of more universal agreement among primer people, remarks one of our exchanges, than the importance of advertising. There are two good and substantial reasons why this unity should exist. First because advertising is the printer man's bread and butter. Second it has made more fortunes than any other one thing, and destroyed none so boih parties are benefitted by it. The bright side is, the vast benefit which flows from it to business men and there is "no really dark side; bccase no one can be injured by the amount spent in advertising, un der any circumstances. It certainly never lessened any man's business, no matter how or what he advertised; and that is more than can be said of any other expense to which he is subjected. Advertising, will always return the cost at least; and judicious advertising, in nine cases out of ten, will make business and a fortune. The Hue way is, not to just dabble in it a little, but to take a good pull expend some hundreds half your store rent, or something like that. .It does more than any stand of business, and will make a stand that was not good before. Don't dabble. You might as well buy a single piece of calico, and expect to trade on it a half a year, or slock up with a pound of sugar and two caudles, and consider your fortune made, and that five or six, lines of , Advertising will briog you custom and business, as a (lerceptibie result. Spend money for advertising to, make money from it, is good docuiue. The time has past, for people to sit quietIp in their stores and trust to circumstances alone to bring them customers. The aspect of business has been entirely changed the old land-marks have been removed, and new channels opened. t People do not now sit quietly and gaze upon the dust gathering around their wares, bul with becoming shrewdnes they place their pens to paper, enumerate their articles, and announce through the advertising columns of some ' widely circulated paper, the quality of their articles, and where they. may be found. Men of small capital, long since discovered this sure road lo wealth, and he who does not follow in their wake, will find himself distanced ;he business completely out of his hand, and his competitors, through the mighty influence and tremendous power of the Press, the wealthiest iu the country. . It is an undeniable fact, that through ad vertising may be seen the sure and speedy way to success the Merchant, the Median ic, the Professional man -every class of the community should keep their names, articles and locations, before the public eye, that .thus, when others may stand in need of articles, they know, without the waste of time and enquiry, exactly where they may be found. DR. ROQER'S COMPOUND SYRUP ... ..- - OF LIVERWORT AND Tit A. A- aalo and certain cure for Consumption of the Langs, Spitting of. Blood, Couglia, Colds, Asthma, Pain in the side, Brouchitis, Whooping Cough and all Pulmonary Afflictions. It is unnecessary to describe the properties of the ingredients of a medicine so well known nut only by medical men, but to the most common persons. The celebrated Dr. Buchan of England, has employed' them successfully for years. Dr. Crichton an eminent ; Physician of Petersburg!), highly .: recommends a treatment in which they are principally employed. They are the remedies-employed by the celebrated Dr Cooper, who during 12 years extensive practice in Consumption and Pulmonary diseases did not lose one single patient, os may be' seen by relerence to a statement to that effect published by him a short lime since. If the simple articles in their crude state are so powerful and efficacious, how much more valuable must they not be when chemically concentrated and combined. We might go on and refer to hundreds of the first physicians and quote numerous authors, on this subject, but deem it superfluone, in speaking of a medicine so well known, and so generally admitted to be without sr.- equal in the cure of the above diseases. But we will aitnch a few out .of the vaal number of certificates from well knowu citizens of the highest standing in society. 7-Hear what ihe celebrated Dr. Richards says a Phyiciun of more than 30 years standing. To 'nil whom it may concern, I make the fol
lowing statement: Conscious that it may ap pear unprolessionsl it is only from a perfect couviction and thorough knowledge of the essential benefit and scientific origin of the preparation spoken of, that I feel constrained, from a sense of duty to comply with the request ot the proprietor. . The patient, Mr. Charles Wade, sixth street Market Space, whom 1 allowed to try the effect of the medicine, (hut which I would have done under no consideration, whatever, had 1 not seen a copy of the receipt from which the medicine is prepared, obtained from the agent, and which I am satisfied is authentic,) was quite low with the early stages of pulmonary consumption, for which 1 had been treating in the usual manner though with le88lhs.11 my usual success; at his earnest request, and thatof his friends, I examined the receipt, and was sufficiently satisfied of its scientific composition to allow the trial and 1 am obliged to confess its etiect was at least surprising, inasmuch that after the consumption of the second bottle my professional visits were discontinued, though 1 frequently saw my pa. tient afterwards, restored to perfect health. The preparation is called "Dr. Rogers' Compound Syrup of Liverwort and Tar," and from the examination of the receipt, and the sue cess in my own experiment, I do conscientiously re. commend it as a useful and valuable medicine, and I should urge my brother practititioners to procure the receipt, as I feci convinced they will agree with me as to its excellence, and will adopt it into their practice, as I shall most eertainly do, believing it to be a most valuable aid in pulmonary cases that baffle the ordinary mode of treatment. W. J. RICHARDS. M. D. Cincinnati, oct. I, I8it. 8-ff8 8 S 8 8 S .8 8 Despair not for thee Is hope for the dying. CERTIFICATES.; This . is to cenify . that some months since 1 was taken with a pain in my side and breast; I called in the aid of several Physicians, but they failed to give me any relief and lor the space of one'year I grew rapidly worse. In addition to this, I was attaked with a violent cough; although an excellent physician lived in the same house, and used the greatest exertion aud paid the strictest attention 11 baffled all his skill two others were called i n one of which was an aged and skilllui physician, but all their efforts proved alike unavailing. Al last, a physician who was attending a camp meeting in the neighborhood, came to see me, and declared that I could not last more than one day longer; also, all of the vast number who came to see me believed that a few days at most must end my earthly career. My friends were now called in to see me die but my brother at this crisis (hearing of the astonishing cures performed by Dr. Rogers' Compound Syrup ot Liverwort and Tar.) went to ChiUicothe and back, a distance of 60 miles in 13 hours, to get some of the above medicine; 1 couuneuced. taking it, and strange to tell, before 1 had used half a bottle the cough was entirely cured; from this lime I recovered rapidly, and when I had veed two bottles, I was able 10 assume my family vocations us usual. 1 am tully satisfied that if it had not been lor this sxct lleut mediciue I wou'd now be in my grave, and must in Justice say N.
