No Paper To-Mobrow. -In conse quence of Thanksgiving, tbera will be no paper isaaed from this office to-mor row. --: - ' ' ' t&" There will be service ' at the Ingle Street Church to day, beginning at 10 o'clock. Rew Mr. Turner will preach a Thanksgiving aermon. ' ' - t We trust that basiness houses throughout the city will. be closed today, and that praise and thanksgiving will be uppermost in the heart of all the people. . The Lord hat done . great things for ut whereof we ought to be glad. - Recorder's Court.-There was not a single case before the Recorder'yesterday, not even for a moderate drunk. Either the vigilance of the police or the fear of His Honor has bad a most wonderful tendency to cool the ardor of that class of offenders which usually gives amusement arid work to our police, and adds to the treanury of the city. ' J ' Aocidkst. We' regret to learn that Mr. Ben. Durham bad the misfortune to have his hand badly mangled by a circular saw at Stmt A Tribler's mill yesterday.' The middle finger of the right band was caught by the saw and cut through to the wrist." The wound was dressed by Drs. ' Caeselberry and Jones, and we . are told the patient . is doing well. , Sad Accident. Samuel E. Bailey, a son of the late Thos. C. Bailey, says the Vincennea Sun, . who has been living with Dr. Mantle, of this city, for several years, was killed by falling into the Doctor's well last Thursday evening. The unfortunate young man had been subject to fits, and, it is supposed, in attempting to draw a backet of water he was seized with a fit, and -fell into the welL He was not discovered nntil Friday morning. .- , , Pair for the Poor; The daughters of Rebekah propose giving a Fair for the benefit of the poor generally. The Fair is to be given on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the 13th and 14th instant, at Masonic Hall, and lunch will be given on Thursday and Friday morn Sngs, The object of this Fair is to help the, poor in general, and no: to confioe the charity alone to the widows and or phans of Odd Fellows, as some may suppose. The ladies have taken great pains to make the Fair a success, and it is hoped that there will be ai large at tendance. There will be a supper given and in addition, oysters, ice cream, an everything that ia calculated to please or satisfy. , . r ., n . w ijecture. mr. uenny, ot est. Liouis delivered a lecture at the Court House last night" for ' the" " edification of the working men of this city.' Mr. Denny started out by saying that the capital ists are the reapers, while the laboring classes sow the seed. He endeavored to show why the capitalists control Legis latures ' and Congress, and mould the action of such bodies. He asserted that the wealth of the producing classes was filched from them; that the work done by them was not for themselves, but for others. He referred to legislation that conferred advantages by taxation for the benefit of negroes, while heSras of opinion that little was being done ' for the white man in the way of legislation He thought if the negro had rights here. that tha white man, had . as much... He was not particular what political com plezion a man was of, to he was in favor of the eight hour system., ; ; ; He considered that every man who was not in favor of joining in with the eight hour league as laboring men, were moral cowards. He also spoke of the condition now of the laboring man, and what it would be. ia future in the event of a failure to secure the eight hour sys tem. - - - Mr. Denny argued the various points of the labor question at length, and con eluded his lecture amidst considerable applause. J ) Mr. J. C. Fincher," of Philadelphia, ill address the workingmen of this city on Saturday evening next, . at the Court House at 7 o clock..; . The Evansville and .Cairo packets have determined hereafter to leave at half past oce o'clock precisely. - This change has been forced upon them, and our merchants will do the Packet Company a great favor by having their goods on board in time. V" ' . . ... If, however, it should happen that merchants get their goods to the land ing too late for the packet they may pot them on Huston & Co.'a wharfboat and they will be shipped promptly" by the packet next day. It will be'better, however, for all to remember the time at which jhe,.packets will be certain to leave, 1 o'clock J M.t aad make their arrangements. This will U the time of departure, until further RQticfc.LT Si D Billiards. -The atch game of billiards, of 1,000 points up, for the Champion Cue, was played night before last at the. Crescent City . The Masos & Hamliit . Cabhet Organs. Those who are at all conversant with musical matters must have heard of the Mason & Hamlin Cabinet Organs, which may be said to have achieved celebrity in a short lime, commanding attention in foreign countries as well as at home. These i7?ora,fcs3 noted carefully the imperleciioua and the need of the reed instruments, and directed all their practical experience, and ; the knowledge "derived from an extended series of experiments, to the correction J of such imperfections, and to the sup plying of these manifest needs. Their experiments on the single point of the reeds have resulted in the production of a aualitv of tone which assimilates so as cloBely to the, pips organ quality, that it ia difficult to distinguish between the two. This is a most important develop ment of the reed instrument., as it ob viates the popular objection to the for mer reedy, thin, nasal quality of instru ments of this class, and adapts it in a ramarkable degree to the services of the church and to vocal accompani ments and music at borne. - ' The Cabinet organs are in point of fact moat beautiful instruments:, their tone is rich, pure and . full," and" their mechanical arrangements "ara " ample, and calculated to afford every assistance to the performer, while adding to ' tba scope and power of the most charming instrument of modern time.
