The County Commissioners meet in regular session on Monday. .' Persons . having business before the board will tike notice.. . New Type. The Journal Job Booms have just been furnished with a large assortment of elegant new job type, and are now better than ever prepared to do all kinds of job work ia a style that defees competition. - ' -: 1 at - IThe indications of falling weather are accumulating. There was a large circle around the moon' last night, and thin light anew-looking clouds thinly veil the sky.; ; .'j : , Kecobdib s Covkt. There was one case of drunk before His Honor yester day. He was a German whose name we could not remember. Two young men,': charged with - having been dis orderly, nere dp. .but there being no evidence against them were discharged. We are glad to observe tbs t tbe streets and alleys are eenerally in a better -conditio". - tha n-,. we ever , saw them, and it will be but little trouble to keep them so. Here and there, haw ever we see a filthy sluice leading' from a back yard, rendering noxious half a square. These must and will be dried op. .Others, carry. their slops to the middle of the street and then-deposit them, creating a "bog wallow" in tbe street This is equally a violation of the ordinance and must be dried up. We are sometimes accosted, with the remark: "If the authorities will not al low na to throw slops and garbage is. tbe alleys, or gutterj, or streets, let them provide as some place to deposit these tUinga." It is not the business of the city to do so any more than It its duty to provide cisterns, or wells, or privies. It is tbe duty of the property holders. Pig sinks, deep and large, or place barrels in a convenient place, and when fall have them moved beyond the city limits.' This work of reform has been long needed; the awaken d public sentiment, demands it The cause of reform if now moving forward, and woe to those-who attempt to impede its progress. Going to Wobk Bight. At aa early hour, for us, yesterday morning, we met Mayor Baker on an exploring expedition through tbe alleys of the city, making a note of all places whence filthy slops issued, and gathering data on which to proceed in the humane work of improving tha sanitary condition of the city.;;-;.'";-' '; ;';" ' .-.r , The authorities are in earnest in this matter, and we hope they will receive the cordial co-operation of erery citizen. It is a work in which all are personally interested, and every good citizen will cheerfully do all ib his power to render it successful. Those who do not, or who oppose any attempt to thwart the efforts of the proper authorities in this maitert will, be made to feel the weight of the law as well as of public opinion.' .' In several places we notice filthy slops poured through back gates into tbe Alley with sufficient offal mingled to attract the swine that infest the streets and alleys, which quickly convert it (nto a pestiferous and disgusting stench. Thii is often ,lhe work of thoughtless hired help,, without the knowledge or consent of those occupying or owning the property. But it is the duty of the heads of the hoaae to see that the ordinance is not violated, aa they, alone, will be held re responsible. New Mosia Our worthy felloweitieen Mr. George Warren, of the firm of Warren k Connngton, has composed a new piece of music, entitled the"Silver Cloud Waltz," , which . bag just been published by A C. Peter & Bro , 69 West 4th s'reet, Cincinnati, with a beautifully illustrated title page. Musical critics pronounce it an excellent composition, an honorable tribute to the varied talent of Evansville, and the musical attainments of its author. It is for sale at Warren k Connyngton's, Main street Festival. The " scholars and teachers of tbe colored school propose holding a Festival ia 'their new school house, corner Canal and Chestnut streets, on Monday and 'Tuesday evenings ane.;.. Friends who feel interested in the progress and prosperity of the echocl, are solicited . to contribute funds or donate refreshments to make the Festival a success. The object in view is to rake sufficient means to enable Miss Johnson to employ an assistant, the school being too large for any ' one teacher to do it justice.""."" MStropo! rr.N. There wa not a large, but a rery elegant and appreciative! audience at the theatre last night, and tbe playing was very fine indeed. Mrs. Frank Graham sustained tbe character of Lady Audley with very superior ability, and was generally well sustained.
