Returns from the Fifth Congressional District of Ken tncky indicate that the' gallant Rons seaa has , triumphed gloriously.,-The city of Louisville gave him" a rousing "majority, which other portions of the District will not be apt to overcome. ' Thus has honest patriotism been via dicated in the chief city of. the. Old Commonwealth., No man ever aroused a more bitter hatred on the part of the slave power than Gen. Rousseau, When he was compelled to leave Louisville for the purpose of organizing his regiment; to do battle in behalf of his country, he was abused, derided, and denounced. But now he. is the chosen Representative in Congress of the people who then regarded him with such abhorrence.1 BgfTSince writing the notice of the warning of negroes to leave the vicinity of Millersburg, Warrick county, we nave learned the particulars from a resident of that place.- The citizens of Millersburg had nothing to do with the matter at all, hut a party of fourteen or fifteen men from Lane Township had visited that place with the intention of driving all negroes away, hut had previously sent a foreman to give warning of their approach. Our informant left the place before he learned the result of the visit. The party, we are told, was headed by a fellow not altogether unknown tagamet in the person of. one Brown, formerly a member' of- company K, 42d Indiana regiment. Let ne ventilate the gallant chap's record for him, for since he courts notoriety we think he should, have all that is due him." "..',', )'.. ''"'.' i At the battle of Perryviile he deserted his command in the face of the enemy, and cowardly skulked away and hid till the fight was over. His officer, Capt. Jas. H. Mastens, seriously meditated his court-martial for cowardice and deser tion at that time, hut in consideration of the fact that he was somewhat respecta bly connected, he did not do bo then ; At the battle of Stone River he again deserted his command in the face of the enemy just as it was being engaged in action. Here he threw away his arms, and did not stop till ha reached Warrick county. As soon as his Captain learned his whereabouts, he had him arrested and forwarded ' to" his command. Charges were preferred against him for cowardice, desertion and misbehavior in tbe face of the enemy.- Upon these he was tried, and the finding of ' the court was that he, the said Brown, was guilty of ail the charges and specifications. The sentence of the court was that he be dishonorably dismissed ' the .service, with a forfeiture of all ..pay and alldwance that -was then or ' might beeome due, that his head ,be .shaved, and that he be drammed throughout his division camp, banished, and at last be confined at hard labor in tha military prison at Nashville during the unexpired term of his enlistment This' sentence was exef-' cuted at Dechard Station, Tean.,. His head was shaved by a negro insthe employ of one of the officers. - No wonder that he does not like the -colored ' population; hat it is a matter of wonder that any man with a particle of self-respect should associate with a disgraced . cow- j ard, muoh less be led by him ; and it is to be most sincerely hoped that no- soldier who has been honorably discharged tbe service will for a moment keep his company, and thus tarnish, their good name. V,r" -r2 's-;:-'i. , We are furthermore informed, that a tew days since this Selectable squad made threats to hang Mr. Jamas Hinman, of Warrick County, because he opposed this summary proceeding.-' If such conduct is continued, there is no telling what the end will he, "- Calm, candid reflection may' save us"'mnch trouble.
