A ScaoEiTiov. Without desiring to
be obtrusive, we respectfully make a suggestion to the proprietors of the elegant new building being erected on the corner of Main and First streets, which s that in the third story bow window I they place a number one Regulator, with three dials, which can be illutninated at night and which will at all time indicate the Time. This can be done at very little cost comparatively and would J be a pnblio benefaction. " By having it properly regulated it would become the standard Time for the city, and besides being an elegant orcament to the building would be the very I best possible sign the Bank could erect. We have no doubt the City Council, and the citizens in general, would contribute liberally toward the purchase of the Time piece. Certain it is I that some Town Clock or : conspicuous Time-keeper should be put op whereby the Time of the city could bs regulated. Income Tax There are not many extraordinarily heavy Income Tax-pay-ers in Louisville, though the average is very comfortable. The heaviest we have I noticed U Joseph Monk, $75,000; Joseph T. Thompkins, $65,000; L. L. Warren, ?55,000; John B Sailtb, $62,000;. W. B. Belknap, $70,000; James Gutherie, $49,000;" A. Brandeis, $43,000; W. W. Crawford, $42,000; A. P. Cochran, $40,000; N,- Blxm, $48,000; T. P, Hughes, $47,000, and so downward. We expect to be able soon to publish the list in this county, and we are glad to learn there is a general disposition to canv..aa closely the incomes of the van-1 ous permanent citizens, so that Govern ment may derive the full benefit of all that is due from each. But the order is imperative and he must obey. ——— IMMENSE IMMIGRATION ACROSS THE PLAINS.—A dispatch received at Gen. Dodge's headquarters, St. Louis, states that the emigration across the plains this season far exceeds that of any previous year. During the month of May four thousand wagons passed Fort Kearney, and trains continued to pass that post in large numbers. The emigrants are bound for Idaho, Montana, Salt Lake, California, and other places. The Indians had not molested the emigrants to any noticeable extent, and all the routes are considered safe.
