Indian Outrages. The Atchison <Champion> says: From passengers who arrived on the overland coach night before last, we learn that a party of fifteen unarmed soldiers, who had been sent out from Fort Leavenworth, on the 8th inst., to join their respective commands on the plains, were attacked on the 18th, at Indian Hollow, near Elm Creek Station, by a large party of Indians, supposed to be either Sioux or Cheyennes, and two of the party killed and seven wounded, one of the latter being scalped and another shot through the head, the ball entering just behind the ear and lodging beneath the eye-ball. Both were living, however, when the coach left, but not expected to recover. The names of the killed are privates Moore, company C, and Shell-
not, company E, 3d United States Volunteers. Those wounded are Sergeant Field, slightly; private Teryman, scalped and cut on the back of the head with a sabre; Isaac W. Bond, side and arm; Peter Fynn, with ball in the head, severe; and three others, names not given. The soldiers had been in hospital sick, and were traveling in a wagon, all of them without arms, through the gross negligence of somaeofficer. They report having been sent forward by Lieutenant Turner, who positively refused to furnish them with the means of defense, and state that he had been drunk for some time before. The coach which came in on Sunday, was also attacked some five miles east of Pawnee Station, by some thirty or forty red devils, who surrounded it on all sides and finally made a charge, but the passengers, being well armed, made a courageous resistance, aid drove them off, killing one of them and probably wounding others. The Indians pursued the coach to near Buffalo Spring Ranche, yelling and shouting all the time. Here a train of six or eight wagons was met, and they were driven off, separating in small parties as they ran. Captain Lawler of the Engineer Corps, was a passenger on this coach. This is the same place that was last year the scene of so many lndian outrages, and near this spot, in August last, several persons were massacred. From the Big Blue to Kearney, there are, notwithstanding these facts, but few soldiers stationed, and these seem, either from weakness or incompetency, to entirely neglect their duty. It is astonishing, though, that so important a part of the line should be neglected for so long. As General Connor went out on the coach, we hope he will at once take measures to correct this evil and prevent the recurrence of such outrages. If he has not the men to do it, he should at once be furnished with a force adequate to the work, for the great overland route must be protected. ---<>--- ----->The Secretary of War has written tha following; tetter to a correspond ent of the New York Herald: WiB DgFAKTJfMTr 1 ) - : WAsniscToir City, June 1, 165.
