Church. To the Editor of the N. O. Times: The Rev. Dr. Newman was preaching Sabbath morning in the Carondelet Street Church to a large and intelligent audience, oo the triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem, when the town clock struck twelve, and the cannon began to boom in honor of our recent victories; the Doctor paused in the midst of his sermon, and exclaimed: Hark! that is a salute ordered by Major General Hurlbut in honor of the fall of Richmond. Will the choir sing the doxology 'Praise God, from whom all blessings flow?"' " Will the audience rise and join in the song of praise while the cannon thunder out the bass of the grand old Anthem? As if by inspiration the choir and audience simultaneously rose to their feet, and sang that lofty hymn of praise with the depth of paiuo seldom heard on earth. It waa a ihriliin scene. Many who had risen to join the sou retook their seats, and burying thir faces in their handkerchiefs, wept for joy. The Doctor then proceeded to finish his impressive discourse. IT Toosil IVotio-.
