A soldier belonging to Major Shoo It's command, was accidently aliot on tha li. K. Dunkerson, on her last trip, and died immediately. HdtT Major 8hook returned to Hendemon on the Morning Star last night. after a brief sojourn in this city. We aw him late on Tuesday evening in pursuit of a guerrilla, up Main Htreet, bat we believe be foiled to make the connection. taf There was an nnusual degree of life and bustle in the city yesterday. Our wholesale merchants were kept buiiy, and the streets were thronged all dr with fair ladies and basiness men. In the alley in the rear of the old ISroadway Hotel. in Nahvillo, on Friday, the ramains of a dead negro ware found. Tha hard rains of Thursday had washed tha dirt away, and one of bis arms waa left sticking out, I'pon disinterring the body it was found that the negro had been literully cut to pieces before burial, the anas and legs beinjr separate from tha body. The condition of the body shows tbut he had been hurried for some time. llu could not be identified, and the whole affair is shrouded in mystery. Nbw IUoimknts. The Indianapolis Juurnat of Taesday says the 149th, raisi'd in the Heventh District, and the 153d, rained in the Eleventh District, completed their organizations yesterday. The lSlst, raised in the Ninth District, will be organized to-day. As w have remarked before, and as is conceded by all competent jadgea these regiments are composed of tha best men to ba found in our State, a large proportion of them having seen hard military service, and are consequently inured to the duties of the field. AsoTiua Rkbkl Ksti'bnsd. The Nashville (Tenn.) Union says that John Ovtrton, Sr., a wealthy and well known resident of that vicinity, returned from the South recently after following the fortunes of the rebellion for four years past. He "is now seeking to save his vast property, (amounting before the war to several millieos,) from confiscation by taking the amnesty oath. His property, rather than any disposition to returning loyalty, however, was probably what brought him back. We very much doubt the propriety of permitting such malignant rebels as Overton to go unwhipped of justice. lie was one of the meanest and most viru lent rebels in Tennessee. He did as much towards carryiag that State out of the Uniou as any other man in it. Worth two or three millions of dollars he threw into the rebel scale all the influence that much money usually gives. Now, after trying four years to overthrow the Government, he comes sneaking back and asks its protection to save his property. The Government should only accord him the protection due to traitors a fa'r trial and a swift punish ment for his Crimea With Roger A. Pryor strutting the streets of Washington and Nicholson and Overton at large in Nashville, it is not strange that patriotic hearta are fired with indignation when they remember that their own loved ones are starved to death in the rebel prisons of the South. It is well to season justice with mercy, but it is not well to let mercy usurp tha throne of justice. At Louisville s number of bueinese men have asso ciated together and applied for a charter, under which it is proposed to raise a capital fund, to be invested in the mann factors of brick and ttone, and in the supply of other materials, in order to afford at all seasons ample stocks of building materials for sale at regular and reasonable prices, and thus furnish an assured basil upon which masterbuilders can make contracts and give steady and profitable employment to a number of workmen. The necessity of a lika move is this city most be apparent to alL We have frequently urged through our columns the great scartity of houses in Evacaville, and called upon our capitalists to build more; but th' want of building materials has deterred many from doing so, and the result is a serious drawback on the growth and prosperity of oar city. Strangers ara constantly arriving at Evansrtile with a view of establishing themselves here in business, hut, owing to tha impossibility of renting either storehouses or dwellings, they ara compelled to leave again and locate elsewhere. During tha last year, between (bar and five hundred bouses were erected in Indianapolis, aud, by thas furnishing accommodations to new comers, our Capital city increased her population many fold greater than in any previous period in her history. In Evaosville many fine business ana dwelling bosses were bnilf, fat the number was small compared with the demand, and to great is the scarcity of dwelling bouses that in some instances families have been compelled to quarter with their friends for months. There is a superabundance of vacant lot! suitable for dwelling and business houses, and we should be glad to see an association formed here similar to the one ia Louisville, by men of capital? energy and enterprise, and who have ample means to establish the association on a scale large enough to be bene ficial to our city end of immediate practical advantage to the whole community. Similar building associations have been most advantageously condacted in Philadelphia, New York, and other cit ies, and we nnderatand entire rows and blocks of houses have been erected un der their influence and aid, greatly to the ornament and permanent advancemeat of those cities ia wealth, prosperity and industrial population. By all means let an association of thia kind ba formed and commence operations. The eoooer it is commenced tha better, for the high rents trowing out of the scarcity of houses? and especially dwellings, are both oppressive to oor citizens and a se rious detriment on the best interests of our city. A thonsand new souse, if to be had now, would find almost immedL ate ocoupancy, and any enterprise that would furnish this needed accommoda lion, will be mora eonduoivo of public good and popular beucf t than any other scheme that could be started. The Chivalry bave transplanted tome of tbeir Southern Institutions to Canad One of them the other night knocked down the wife ef a Mr. Sterling, who waa instrumental in bringing the rebel Bur ley to trial, and severely injured her. Recorder Duggan waa also assaulted oa the street for some part he took in the affair. Bowie knife rows are of frequent occurrence at tome of, tha hotels. The legal fraternity anticipate a lively time when Judge Trigg opens tbe U. S. Court on th first Monday ia March. Judze Trigg has publicly announced Ib.she regarded as ot not th sugntest vicjr atnaestj oavos aumwisierwa oj military officers. Under instructions from Judge Trigg the Grand Jury indicted certain persona who had taken th amnesty oath Before military officers. Geo. Roberta declare that the Grand Jurcrs erred greatly, and, releasing the parties, forbids their trial in any civil or military court. Jade Trigr will insist on the independence of the judiciary and th rights of United States Court. The bsvr will be enlightened and the public amused.
