Our capitalists and business men need only be true to their own interests, withoit selSahne., and to the interests ci the city, without injustice, to make Evansville the great commercial metropolis of the Ohio Valley. Let as foster our own business enterprises, whether manufactures, mercantile establiahmerjta, railroad and steamboat lines, or whatever tends to the upbuilding of tbe city's ioterests, and our prosperity will know no limit. A Step Forward We are glad to ee that workmen bave commenced palling down the "old rookery" on the cornt of Main and 1st ttreet, to make room for tb splendid block-to be erected by the First National Bavnk and others. Tbe old wooden bui.'ding ba long been an eye sore to our citizen, and all will rajoice to see it diiappear before the enterprise and progress of tbe age. Preparations are, we notice, being made for other desirable and elegant improvement The old wooden bnildiog, occupied by P. Boyle as a bakery, oo Fint street, will soon give place to an elegant iron front, which will complete that square. To Mayor Baker' shrewd ness and financial ingenuity they are largely indebted for their escape.
