OITY NEWS. lg- There it still great activity about tin)' office of the Provost Marshal, and the different counties are rapidly filling up their quotas. The only drawback in this county is tbe failure of the people or s, portion of tbem who are liable to draft neglecting to pay iu tbe pitiful sum assessed against tbem to furnish the money to pay bounties. We had hoped and believed that this county rould be tbe Crst in the State to 11 her quota, and this would have been tbe cae bad all come promptly forward with their $30, $40, or $). The men were ready anxious to enlist; but the bounty money was wanting. It willwbe a shame if a draft should be necessary in Vanderburgh County, when it could be so cheaply avoided. 1 nfRovcMK5T. The room on the corner of Main and Water Streets, under the ctlice of Brown, Dunkerson k Co., hn been fitted up, in admirable style, for tbe use of the new National Bank, and it promises to be one of the most desirable locations, as well as one of tj,e m0,t pleaiant rooms in the city. On that Street There is bo question but that if tbe entire street from Walnut to Division, was built up with firm, modern !y constructed business houses, that it would pay a large dividend on the investment and add a thousand per cent to the river view of our city. As it now Htands, it is the luoHt uncouth portion of the city and fcivi-s a very unfavorable impression of tbe city to persons arriving by river. An unbroken brick front, three stories on cm b square fronting the river, would make Kvnnsville the haddsomext city on the river from Pittaburg to Cairo. Tin Citt Whabp. During our sojourn in Kvansville we have never seen the city wharf in the same horrible condition as is it at prcnent, and we do hope tlmre will be somo steps taken ad soon as practicable to improve it in such m maimer a will admit of paasengers get ting to hiiJ from steamboats without benig overwhelmed in mud. I j - '-a manently repair it during the coming Hummer, and in such a manner a will be both creditable and profitable to the city. We may expect a large trade to and from tbe city this season, and tbat trade would be largely increased during the whole year had we a good wharf, hie not necessary that the entire wharf should be bouldered or paved at once. Let one square or one half of a square be well bouldered or naved this season and continue it from season to season as the means and material can be ecur,,jt We understand the wharf debt baa been paid off, and a large fund has certuinly been accumulated, bat even if a I lare debt had to be incurred it ou'd still be a good investment Let the work commence with the early spring. rTb6 Express train which Uft Vincennes. lud for Cincinnati on Saturday night 'at 10:.r)0, on the Ohio Mississippi Railroad, was throwu of the truck on Sunday morning, near Lawrenceburg, and two of the coache hurled down an embankment.
