On our Crgt pftge we print n exceed' ingly iDtereiting letter from an "Eyansville IJoy," now with Maj. Gen. A. J. Smith in Tennessee, firing an accurate account of the battles in tbe vicinitj of Naflhville, as witnessed by bim. The letter needs no commendation from us. It is a plain, straightforward statement of what an intelligent eye-witness of (be b&ttje saw. It it especially valuable, coming as it does from one of oor own citizens V are confident all will read it with pleasure. Fkom the Frost. We were gratified yesterday by receiving from the front a few lines from our old and gallant friend Geo. W. Hill, of the C5ih, formerly mail airent on the E. 4C.R.R. George is in fine health and highly gratified with the situation. He makes a requisition upon us for extra rations, which we will take great pleasure in honoring. RELlfilots. Captain Jones received a dispatch from Nashville yesterday, says the Louisville Journal of Saturday, static,; that twenty-two hundred rebel prisoners were en route from that city to Louisville. They will probably arrive here this morning. IksT Sixteen years ago, last evening, it snowed. We remember it by tbe same token that on that same evening a ! preacner sam a tew pertinent wrds to ourselfauda handsome young lady, and wa nave been boarding with her ever since. IfcaT-One of the latest arrivals from Mobile reports that . there are only about 7,000 troops there, all militia except about 500 or 600 Alabamians aud a regiment of cavalry from Forrest's command. There were bat two ironcUds in the river, neither of them of much use Iackiug propelling power. This "reliable gentleman" thinks Mobile could he taken by a land frrce without much fighting. They have already called a public meeting and appointed the necessary committees to correct the enrollment lists. Why are oor citizens idle? A public meeting should be called here, that the enrollment lists may be perfected. There are a large number of ablebodied men here whose names are not on the lists, and who seem to have no visible means of support, and there are many young men who have reached the age of twenty years since the last enrollment was made; and in addition there are large numbers of refugees from the Sooth, who have as good a right to a part of the honor and glory of figh'ing for the country as those born and reared at the North. These should all be enrolled, that no one may be robbed of their rights. Hon. Geo. M. Dallas, Kx-Vice President of the United States, died in Philadelphia on Saturday rowrning, in the 7:5d year of his age. He was Vice President from 1841 to 1849.' He was a man of marked ability but a strong partisan. Military Arrkst. A l)r. I'atton, of V'incennes, has been arrested by tbe military authorities for harboring Dr. Jackioaa, a Son of Liberty, who was forcibly set at liberty after being arretted and lodged in the Knox county jail. Upon the arrest Geo. E. Greene goes off in a perfect torrent of vituperation ugainst the authorities. Morton's Ixcomx. Governor Morton pay $17) income tax. This is pretty good on a salory of $3,000. Of course our patriotic Governor ha made nothing out of the war! Vincennet Sun. Now isn't it a terrible thing thot , , ,. . the. A lucrative practice of many years in his profession, before he entered the arena of politics, ought to bave enabled biiu la invest some money from which to derive an income independent of his salary. Tbe malice entertained towardi Gov. Morton by the Copperheads was never more manifest than in tbe above con temptible item. We were delighted yesterday to meet Adjutant Page, of the famous l,rth Indiana, direct from the front at Columbia, f i a short leave of absence. Adjutant Page had been sick, but is now pretty well recovered, and will soon be again redy for duty. He reports tbe C5th in fine condition, numbering over five hundred effective men. At Franklin, tht O.'.ih lust one m killed and four wounded, and in the two day fighting before Nashville al though the regiment bore its full share of the fighting not a man received a scratch. Adjutant Page thinks Hood has e Caped across the Tennessee Uiver with tha demoralised fragments of his army, but considers him utterly used up and ruined. tie reports our old attache, Tom Groves, in magnificent spirits, the life of the regiment, whose sparkling jokes are worth a whole apothecary's shop to the men. Most of the members of the ti.ith regi ment Trom this vicinity are in good health. As BY Hl'MFHRKT. The court martial in the case of Andy Humphrey found him guilty on all the charges and on all the specifications except- two, and sen tenced him to imprisonment at hard la bor during tbe war, but in consequence of extenuating circumstances, General Hovey-has commuted his sentence to confinement to the townships of Wright tid,Mocklon, in Greene County, on his parole of honor not to leave those town ships during the war, and not to oppose directly or indirectly the vigorons proseborlon of the war. He. has given his parole and ha returned home. The negro troops stationed at Owensboro for some time, have been withdrawn, and the gucrriila under Walker Taylor, aud a portion of Lyon's men, have taken possession of the town. As tbe St. Patriek passed down by there yesterday numbers of guerrillas were seen in the streets, and a squad on horseback followed the boat two or three miles dowa the river, trying to hail her in, but Capt Geo.
