6ATCBDAT .SOVIMBEE 20 I lierman! .0rdligraftt eolumus this morning are full of highly exciting news from (Jen. Sherman, which we rsceive through rebel source.. Canton, Milledgevilie, Macoa and Griffin are reported aa cap. i tared and destroyed, - while Sherman columns are pushing forward in their work of devastation. . "1 E3- We give op much of oor space 'this morning to the interesting aermon : of Ber, B. F. Rawlins, delivered at the Locust bttreet M. E. Church on Thora. daj morning last. Wa regard it as an able aiid eloquent production, and well worth reading. t&T Tbe Louisville Journal says that a gang of villains is congregated ia tbe jjeigL lorbood cf Golconda and Metropolis, Indiana Xo Buch placet ia our State, neighbor. - THANEe.-e-Our Thanksgiving was intensified on Thursday by a yoaog, fat, and juicy turkey from tbe grocery store of Vickery Brothers. We partook of it with., thanksgiving, , wishing the enterprfniiig and liberal douort long years of happiness and prosperity. - 37We are indebted to Capt. Sam Barr, i the distinguished and' elpgnt . elerk of the big Missouri, for New Orleaue papere of tbe 14ib. TiUNEoiviso.-r-We are under obligations to Mr. Carmody, of the Monitor, for two bottles of Champagne and fpsrliIio2 Catawba, which we drink to bis health and longevitj. 1 s '1 U proprietors of the Monitor regaled i their friends on Thanksgiving evening with foaming egg nogg. ficxTCol. Burge, of the 44th Kentucky regiment, was in tbe city on Thursday, tn route to Louisville. Tba term tf service of the 48'k has expired and the Colonel is now recruit ing a new regiment. There i no dis count on his patriotism or courage, and he stands square up to the Administration. Col. John W. Foster hat been ia the city for a few day and ia looking re markably well. Receipt in Full We suppose the acknowledgement of a turkey by the ed itor of the Timet from Judge Niblack is a receipt in full fur remuneration for ivrvicrs rendered in this county during tin) late campain. Cheap enouzb. LMKUEUOCS AUVlta. 1 he Sullivan Democrat is lamenting over the want of poblio spirit and town pride In the citi zens of that benighted village. Their graveyard has never been en closed, and hogs and cattle wallow and roam amid neglected graves. Their sidewalks are dilapidated ,and .neglected, and their fhiol-house ia described aa a perfect old rookery and a d'mgrace to the towa. ' .j Now, we har no doubt the Dtvwcrat is right; but what better could it or the world expect for a town that votes solid, almost, for Dan. Voorbees. What care they fur the neglected graves of their dead? the dead can't vote the Democratic ticket; and as for respectable school houses they are death to modern Copperhead Democracy. Unless you arti piepared to give op your Democratic biftjiifity, do not build school houses. Here we have large and handaome school houses; such is also the case ia Tnrre-, Haute, Indianapolis, and Madisou; and see the terrifying majorities th(e cities gaye against the; Bogus De mocracy. If yot want Sullivan county to remain the great Copperhead strong ItoTrf,- (wt your school-houses go to decay and continue to burn tbe houses "of t'nuin men, to rob and plunder defenceless citizens, and assassinate enrolling officers. School-home will ruin you. .TuANKsmviKu Day. The day set apart by the President and subsequently by Gov. Morton in this State, and by all the Governors of the loyal. Stated, aa a dav of thanksgiving and praise, was very generally observed on Thursday by the people of our goodly city. ' Religious services were had ia all the churches in the city, with on or two exceptions, and all who coahi secure a turkey, did ao, we presume. Others less fortunate , contented themselves with chickens and other delicacies. Many places of business were closed, and everybody seemed to enjoy a holiday.. The soldiers at the hospitals bad a magnificent dinner prepared, with plenty of turkey and ether poultry and the necessary concomitants. Wa accepted a pressing invitation to be present, and it made us feel good to see the brave boys in blue enjoy themselves. At night they had a brilliant dance, and we shall not be surprised to learn that the health of the invalid be been greatly improved. There was a dance or two in other parts of the city on Thursday night The day passed off pleasantly, and we did not hear of any unpleasant incident to t mar the day's eitjoyuenC Tha weather was magnificent and all the churches were well filled, and th atresia during the greater part of the day presented a very animated appearance. - FixisntxG Up Mr. Bennett informs u that he baa about finished his canvass of our city for hie nwW Directory, and will leaw for Cincinnati, on Tuesday Jiext Those who ha Vf..n ...:. location or place- of busi new .since he took their names can b ave aa n uv.pt n. nity of correcting the Directory by leaving their new addresa at Dobelfa Book Store, prior to that time. , A last opportunity is also afferded to subscribe for the Directory or insert adverti.emrats in it Gold, Silver, Demand Notes and Coupons bought and sold at the Conti nental Bank.

In the' very instance before 'us, T;ot onlv do we see Providence sundering tHe lingdom, but Shishak, now' besieging the gales of the capital of Jadah, has been summoned there from Egypt by the same Divine Providence.
