A special to the Herald from Nashville, dated 5th, rays an unusual degree of excitement prevails here to-day in consequence of the relict fclenerJil Forrest, with a force of about 4,000 men, making a raid oh onr line of riIroud communication between this plac and Bridgeport or Chattanooga, aiul at this particular time no trains are leaving for the North. Yet this circumstance need give no particular cause for Alarm. The enemy can do but little to injure our communication. Forrest may, succeed in interrupting our communication for- a few hours, but we have not only sufficient force to drive Itteerior'joVcd. .'nfnat m immensely There need be no fear of Gen. Uose crans' failing to hold his poaitiou at Chattanooga. To-day skirmishing ia going or in the neighborhood of Murfreesboro. The enemy attempted to destroy a bridge of considerable importance in a railroad point of view. In the skirmish very few were wounded and none killed. Some persons are inclined to think an engage- i ment is going on at Chattanooga, but I do not coincide with them. Unless the i enemy 1? very, desperate he will not attack Chattanooga! If he does there is every Kv?Hbood. he will be defeated. If he attempts a Hank movement on that j ylace, he will meet a force that has been j long and welt tried'in the field, and Gen.
