SiUttL'Al, OCTOBStt 29, 1S10 THE WAR IN EUROPE.
Morning ana Afternoon Dispatches. Loudon, Oetobor 28 A correspondent cf the Times telegraphs the following from Versailles, dated 25th: It will be a few days yet beforo the Germans bombard l'at-3. In the action of the 21st, sixty-five battalions took part, supported by twelve batteries. liazainewas icsently informed that he conld only have the terms which were accorded to McMahoa. There are over 2,000 sick and wounded French and Germans, in and aronnd Versailles. Forts Vauves, Montroga and Bicetre are now connected by strong earth- . works. Twenty citizens of Baugel haya been execnted by the Prussians for aiding the French in their sorties irom Paris. In a sharp skirmish between reconaoitering parties on the Loire near Orleans, yesterday, both parde3 retired. - On Sunday a Prussian provision train, near Vouziers, was attacked by Frno-tireur3, who killed the escort an'i captured the stores. They also killed thirty of the white cuiras&eurs noar Olisy. There is a force of twenty-five hundred Prussians before Mczieres. Active operations have not commenced, as the siege guu3 have not arrived. London, Oat. 2S. A dispatch from Bombay announces that the day has been fixed by the Chinese for the massacre of all the foreigners. They are marching and distributing their troops accordingly. The Consuls everywhere notice an increasing hostility and insoleDCJ among the native population. Then is much excitement amocg tho English and French residents. AGBICELTURiL ITJSH3. A hen's egg, shaped lika a gourd, is a Logansport curiosity. The Petersburg Press says cholera is killing off hogs in the southern part of Piko County. IIoo cbnlera has made its appearance in Scott County, and a large number of swine have died. Wild turkeya are more numerous in the woods trna they have been before for years. HoQ3. The New Albany packers have made several contracts for hog?, at 7 cents gross, t j be delivered early in November. At Fort Wayne, hogs are selling at $7 00 per hundred, gross. This seems to be the prevailing price at the present time. The tobaco crop of North Carolina is universally pronounced the best, both in quantity and quality, that the planters have been favored with for years. 'From a certain hill top in the southern part of Tazewell County, Illinois, where the vision extends for twenty miles, nothing can be seen but corn. Last year the State of Illinois produced 200,891,335 bushels of corn. In 1S70 there are 0.397,932 acres in - corn at 37 bushels to the acre, and the yield will bo 257,891,334 bushels. The editor of the Grayville (111.) Independent has been presented with a basket cf second crop poaches, raised in that town. They are similar to the first growth, excepting that they are snualler. Some of our farmers have bjen bragging to us about their big sweet potatoes this Fall,' weighing from 4i to C pounds; but wha: will they say when we inform them that a Boyle County farmer has a sweet potatoe weighing just eleven pounds! Boxoling Green Ky , Bern. Broom Corn. The Cincinnati papers says there is a dull and lifeless market for it, and hardly enough doing to establish prices, lied is quoted at - 23j. per lb., and green 453., as in quality. The low prices have checked the arrivals, but there is an ample stock on hand. Corn. Our farmers are miking the necessary preparations to begin gathering corn the present week, should the weather prove favorable. A small army of men will bo employed in this work for several weeks. The corn crop, in this locality, is said to be better than it has been for reveral years. Ntio Albany Ledger. The tobacco crop of tho Miami Valley for 1S70 is the largest and bast ever produced ia it. It is estimated at 30,000 cases of 400 pounds to the cise. and we are informed that twothirds of it has bcea so'd at an average of 17 cents per pound, which aggregates 2.010.000. Of ttiis it is stated that at least $1,500,000 was produced ia Montgomery Coucty. Tobacco buyers assert that the crop is as good as Connecticut gold leaf, and there is no doubt that it will eventually be put upon the market as Connecticut tobacco and sold for the higher prices received for that product. The 17 cents, however, represents what our planters receive. At this price the to bacco crop is the best pajing product - in tho valley, exceeding, on the aver aire. $200 per acre planted. On the whole, we think you have great reason to congratulate yourself upon having constructed a most excellent Mill, which will doubtless supercede those constructed UDon otiier principles. TheSwiss gentleman", Mr. John Walt, whom you sent to put the mill up and start it for ns, seems to be an excellent machinist. Our friends who witnessed him working, say he is the best sawyer that they have eer seen. You conld not have sent a better machinist aud sawyer, or one that would have given more satisfaction.
