The Evansville aad Riverside Base Ball Clubs played a practice game on the EvatiBville grounds, yesterday afternoon, resulting in the defeat of the Evansvilles, 3D to 14. The Riversides go to Vincennes this morning on the 10:10 train to play the match with the Washington Club, of Washington. The following are the names and positions of the nine: Hudspeth, 1 f; Green, p; Saner, 1st b; Roach, a b; Best, rf; Ingle, of; Boicourt.o; C. Dexter, 3 J b; Laughlin, 2d b ; Hopkins and Sorenson, alternates. . ' 1 The continued illness of Harry Dexter will take somewhat from the efficiency of the club, much to the regret of the members. Caroline Hubbs, a leather lipped negress was arrested yesterday even ing for trying to compel her husband. by threats and abuse, to reserve all his attention for her. Can any one tell why John Goslin. the Canadian half-breed who was convicted of robbing a Green River man, at the last session of the Crim inal Court, yet remains in jail in this city. The floor of the County Jail is being strengthened by having two courses of oak plank laid over it with alining of No. 20 sheet iron between the planks which are spiked together; a device of Commissioner Decker, to guard against any more at tempts at jiil breaking, which mast prove effectual. - 'J. A. N." who would give no other name, complained to the police, on Tuesday night, that he had loaned a gold watch, chain and ring to a nymph, named Schwarz. who had fascinated him, that she might have her picture taken. She we?t to Henderson to have the job done, and hasn't returned yet. The initials J. A. N. are on the watch and ring. The Courts. Criminal Court. Hon. A. L. Robinson presiding. Three bills were returned by the Grand Jury, and Charles Sohnepper and William Heldum were tried by the Court for an assault and battery upon Wm. Miller. Sohnepper pleading guilty was fined $10 00 and costs, and Heldum was fined $5 CO. The assault and battery complained of occurred on Saturday. Before Justice Walker. George Smith, a steamboat mate, was placed under bonds in the 8um of $100, to keep the peace, especially toward Armstead J. Tucker, another mate, at whose complaint Smith was arrested. The bond also requires Smith to appear before the Criminal Court for further trial. Eva Eberhardt entered a complaint against Anton Klein for provoking her by eff: -ing her a gross insult. Anton w&3 arrested but being permitted to retire for a moment to change clothes he " lit out." Louisa Thurner, a young girl cf nineteen, complained on oath of Nicholas Cardel that, under the most solemn promise of marriage, he had seduced her from the strict path of virtue, in consequence of which she prayed his arrest for bastardy. Cardel has absconded, but the officers are in hopes of arresting him. Before J ustice . Mc Teman. An error occurred in yesterday's report of proceedings before Justice MoTeinan. The case of Wm. Weitzel, the boy who was tried for provoking Wm. Roberts by killing his chickens, etc.. was held under advisement until yesterday, and the boy discharged.
