THURSDAY, MAEril 3, 1870. The Government will make a profitable speculation out cf the fractional currency. Statistics show that about half of it is worn out and never presented for redemption. S? Mungen, of Ohio, in a recent speech in the House, referred to the Chief Magistrate of the nation as the gifted President, but ho said, if he had violated any rules by Faying so, he would take it back. Vincennes Sun. Mungen, wo presume, don't call the $300 he received for a cadetship, a gift. That was aair mercantile transaction.
Ssnator Turner is urged by the Democracy of Davics3 county as a candidate for the Legislature. As the Washington emocrat says, ho would make a "red-hot canvass, and would carry the war into Africa," if he should be a candidate. Vincennes Sun. The Democrat means, we presume, by " carrying the war into Africa," that Senator Turner will be. universally "sweet" on the colored vpters of that County.

Business men will do well to esaoiine their papers in order that they may avoid getting into trouble through a neglect to attend to stamping documents. fiaTSays the Harrison (Texas) Flag: The flow of emigration into Texas does not abate in the least. Every staamboat up lied river is crowded with people who are comisg to Texas, while the number who have

ashore. The passengers had no confidence in Captain Cornstock, and paid no attention to his orders. Ac indignation meeting was held on the Colorado, which passed resolutions that in their opinion the wreck of the Golden City was due to incapability and gross carelessness by the commanding officers, and much unnecessary suffering ashore can be traced to same source. The passecgers with but few exceptions reached Ltre by the Colorado last night; theirbaggage and treasure wa3 left on the beach under a proper guard. The roil call aboard the Colorado showed the following steerage passengers missing: Alice Stiler, Michael Donavan, Alexander McPhersonF.' Angel, Frederick Clark, John Abel, Walter Addison, J. S. lioach, Joseph Thibley, Nicholas Abel, .Veter AbeK W. Goldman, Andrew It. Smith, James Connor, Chas. Barges, II. Tobias, O. Donooda, P. Lenson. It ireported that others remained irr camp, which leaves nine missing. Therpfwcre ninety-five names on the steerage roll, and six or eight paid passengers, whose names arc not added to the supposed missing. It is reported that resolutions, condemning Capt. Cornstock, were unjust. Only part of those aboard the Golden City approved them. He should be given credit for having rescued every passenger. The sufferings of the passengers of the Golden City, on the march from the Ecene of disaster to Santa Maria Bay, to take the Colorado, is described as terrible. They had no water, and but little hard bread. Old men, women and children walked twenty-two hours over rocky mountains, under a burning sun, and arrived at their destination, entirely prostrated with faticTie. Kverv Dasseneer has 'his ver-
' eion, but all agree to the principal in
cidents.
When all reached tho land, one
boat rigged sail, and manned by six or eight men, was sent to sea, to look out for the Colorado, but it is supposed misssd that steamer in the
night time. Accounts diner aa to the
number of passengers missing; some say nine, and some fifteen. The latter
is considered nearest correct.

Uajtlen News. New York, March 2. The World's Port au Prince correspondence tays that Rear Admiral Porter, commanding United States North Atlantic Squadron, entered the harbor of Port-au-Prince on the 9:h inst., with the flagship Severn, and the ironclad Dictator; and upon landing he had an interview with the Ilaytien authorities. He announced that the United States had formed an alliance with President Boez, of San Domingo, and that he had been sent there to say that any aid given to Cabral would bo considered an act of hostility towards the United States, and would provoke hostilities in return, and that the United States Government was deter
mined to use all its power to prevent any aid being given to Cabral, and he had been sent to these waters with sufficient force to carry this determination into execution, and that he would carry out his instructions where this succor was carried to Cabral, under the Hajtien or any
other flag. This menace created much excitement . in Hayti and was regarded in some quarters as an act of war. The Admiral, after the interview, steamed off to Cape Haytia. The Haytiens assert thatthe English vesels are conveying support to the Cabral Islands, with a concurrence of the British Admiral, and that if Admiral Porter is consistent
in warning on all spmpataizers, with Cabral, he will necessarially come in conflict with the British, in those waters. Later London papers contribute the continuation of the proceedings in the Mordaunt divorce cass. The evidence of Sir Charles Mordaunt ia interesting, as indicating the general
ieeling in regard to the character of the Prince of Wales. Sir Charles testified that before his marriage to Lady Mordaunt ho knew of her intimacy with the Prince, and that after the marriage he warned her against continuing the acquaintage. I told her, said he, that 1 had heard in various quarters csrtain circumstances connected with his previous character that caused me to wish her to break off with him, notwithstanding this wish. Ladv Mordaunt" continued te
receive the Prince without the knowledge of her husband, until the time she made the voluntary confession that a criminal intimacy had been existing between them. Sir Charles also testified to the discovery of a batch of letters and a valehtinc from the Prince to his wife. The court refused to Dermit the letters to bo read.
