Green River Mail.- Wo 'learn from a private letter from the Postmaster of this city, now in Washington City as a member of tho delegation appointed by tho City Council, ithat the Post Office Department haa agreed to order lhe establishment of a steamboat mail on Green River, from Evensvilla to Bowling Green.: This; has been the great mail want of our merchant., and they and the people- of Kentucky in the Green River region have suffered much inconvenience from its absence. With this route established, which will be done at the regular contract time in' July next, our city will bo pretty well supplied with mail facilities in alt directions. EST Faber's genuine ' Pencils can always bo found at tho Journal Ofuoe. Runaway A big runaway took place yesterday morning in the First Ward, and created quite a sensation. A team attached to a wood wagon, belonging to a man- named Miller, who lives a short distance abovo the city, took fright while ; standing, in front of Eiles' Mill, and started off quite lively. : Dashing through an alley, they scared a team of mules attached to a wagon, and tho result was another runaway. , When Miller's team Etartcd, he had hold of the lines, and was dragged through the road for nearly a equare, but only slightly injured, ne was covered with the celobiatcd First Ward mud from head to foot, and presented an exeeedinly woe:l egone appearance. He. made a lucky escape;-- - .; Vs5 Faber'a best Rubber none better in the market for sale at the Journal Office. ' Cemetery Road. The road to Oak Hill Cemetery is pronounced almost impassable at present, and the profane remarks indulged, in by tho " Jehus" who are compelled to travel over it, mo both loud and deep. . It 13 estimated that a good,1 swearer will titter about two hundred and seventeen " cuss words " while making a trip to the cemetery and back. It is hoped that during the coming year, a good road to the cemetery will be constructed, so that; when the , bad weather seta "ia next Winter we 6hali be prepared for it.' Everybody is ia favor of. a good road to the burial place of our dead, and tho present City Council havo taken steps to give U3 such a'road during tho coming year, and it i3 to bo hoped that their praiseworthy intentions may bo carried through successfully. The entire community will . rejoice at tho completion of 60 desirable an improvement. Commissioners. But little, business of interest to tho public was transacted by tho Board of County Commissioners yesterday. The bids for doing the earthwork at the Salt Well Bridge, on this side of the Creek, were opened and tho contract was awarded to John Buchs, at 141 cents per yard. There were six bids in compctiiioa for tho contract. Tho filling oa the other side of the bridge has been completed. Ia the afternoon some billsVcro allowed. 2f0a Saturday wo expect to re ceive our New Year's Calling Cards, Orders should be handed ia to-day, as wo find that the first invoice will not bo Rsfficient to fill tho demand.

About one year ago, Rev. Samuel Bak?r, D. D., assumed the pastoral charge of the First Baptist Church in this city."" He entered upon his labors as minister, with that congregation, aEd ha3 prosecuted them during the year, as we believe, in the spirit of the Divine Master. - ' In his connection with the ministers of the city, he has proved himself to be scholarly and profound in biblical attainments, evangelical : in Christian experience, and courteous as an associate r.ad friend.
