HOa fllABY 4 COMMERCIAL WEEKLY REVIEW. Financial There Is no material change la the Money market since our last report Money still keeps tight, although some of the banns have taken all the good uaner

onerea them.

Ia consequence of the frequent calls from shippers, pork-packers and merchants, the discount lines in all the banks are kept as high as can be well taken care of rate 10

to 12 per cent. Exchange ;s firm ; bought at par and sold at ISO per thousand premium. Gold, through the week, fluctuated a little advanced and then receded. We quote, buying 123, selling 130. Peace reigns supreme in Wall Street. The free atmospiiereof relief, the conscioasuess of security, the hope of advancement in mercan

tile pursuits, the sterling encouragement

snown to the merchants by theaiminis-

t ration, the cilmax of a vlie conspiracy of

gold and stock gamolers, the terrible re

suits of an ingenious clique combination,

its dire effects, confusion and coast erna'

tion, all tend to the philanthropic expectation that the great swindle may never be

repeated. That the fraud was inexcusable, ably plotted and adroitly managed, is now beyond comment. The result, while it caused woe and disappointment, has been somewhat advantageous, since an epidemic gradually progressing was timely nipped ia the bud. The excitement Is now at aa end. and it is to be hoped that it will be long before such a state of things shall occur again. Bonds have been somewhat unsettled in price during the week, but are now firm at the quotations below.

fc5T. Louia. Tbe Democrat ot Saturday says: The river is nearly stationary. Weatber still fine, aud dost abundant. Bud lu ess lair; merchants are withdrawing tiieir attention from tbe Pair, and are devoting it more to business. No change lu tbe upper rivers wortny of note. Another good man, an old bleamboatmau, has succumbed to tbe fell destroyer. At eleven o'clock yesterday morning Captain Bryant 11. Packard died, at his residence lu t his city, after a long and painful illuef.s, his mother, wife aud children, and lils brother, Oeorae H. Packard, be

ing present during bis last hours, and through much of, if not all, bis sick, ness. He died in possession of all his faculties, aud as If lulling asleep. The last

trip try ant Packard made was to .tew Orleans as commander of the Bee, one month ao, in placa of Captain Goll. A relapse was tne consequence, and every effort to recuperate him failed. He was aged forty, eight years, and whs a river man lor t hir-ly-six years. He was born In New York Male, and went to tbe West in ISA. His father was a boatman o.j the Ohio, aud Bryant made his first trip as a cabin boy, with him. The Republican ot Friday sayg : John Brooks who has been so long and favoiably connected with numerous of our palatial Southern sleameis. will, on Monday, bssume tbe position of clerk of tbe low-pressure Richmond. tav Oklkans. The Times ot Wednesday says : The weather yesterday was clear and fine with a cool tempemture, which rendered it as pleasant as could be expected, we hope that such weather may continue for some lime to come, as none belter could be desired. Business on tbe landing yesterday was not quite so active as that of Monday. There seemed to be a drawbacc In the

shipments for Red River, but this may be accounted for in consequence of the immense fehipments to triut ktreaiu during the past week. To Vicksbu-g and Ht. Louis freights were fair enough, while our coast packets done as well as could be expected. - -
