By our special and regular dispatches this morning it will bo seen that a portable engine, used oa the grounds of the State Fair at Indianapolis, exploded about 4 o'clock yesterday evening, killing some twenty pcrson3 outright and woundin severely or slightly a large number, estimated variously at from 3G to 100. Tho lesser number is probably most nearly correct. The scene is declared to be indescribable, and innumerable hair breadth escapes were made. A portion of the boiler passed over the head of Gov. Baker, and severely wounded his coach-nan, a few feet behind him. Children were torn from the arms of their parents and killed, the parents escaping uninjured. Mothers were torn from the children they were leading by the hand, and the mother killed, and the children being terribly injured. Persons from almost all other sections, of the State are killed or injured, and the new3 of the appalling disaster will be read in every town and bamlet in the State this morning with blanching cheeks, tearful eyes ; and. anxious hearts.
