Off to Arkansas. Mr. Kiliau L. Bach, for a long time ona of the pro
prietors or the Daily Union of this city, left on tho steamer Dardanella last night, with his family, for Little Rock, Arkansas, which placo he expects to make his future home. He
Sbssation. A few day3 ago we incidentally mentioned the fact that rain had fallen ia. the vicinity of Terre Haute and along the line of the E. & C. 11. 11-, and that no notice had been made of the matter by the Terre Haute paperj. The editor of the Fxpress seems to have taken the matter to heart, and "goes for us" in the following dignified and highly courteous manner: The local editor of the Evansuille Journal has a clear right to ride his hobby, tha weather, to the fall extent of his readers' endurance, but he needn't necessarily be discourteous towards other papers which prefer to give their readers news rather t! an essays on his favorite theme. With all duo respect for his ability and lorg experience, we do n at think it in good ta.-te for him to lecture the pre.-s of the country on the duties and proprieties of journalism. If tbe Express is not read outside of the corporate limits ef that ancient and beautiful ciiy, it is pro-cr enough that it takes no notice of the weather or the tAgo of the river, as its readers are very likely to know a3 much about thcs3 matters as the editors. But on the same principle it might emit many other itcm3 which appear in its columns. We make mention of the state of the weather, and condition of the river here for the information of our readers abroad, and we make mention of the state cf the weather aud condition of tho rivcr3 abroad for the information of our readers at home. And even then we arc frequently askel.if wo have any later news from the river at Pittsburg, or any accounts of rain in such and suili localities. Last Spring gentlemen rode ail the
tho way from New llarmoay and
Grayville to examine copies of the Terre Haute and Lafayctio papers to learn if possible the condition of the river or the stato of tbe weather at those points, but found those papers silent on tho subject, although a flood was prevailing that destroyed thousands of dollar' worth of property
which niisht have been saved had the
farmers along the river had timely warning. Wo do net question the on our part, or that we make a hobby
of the weather, but repeat our asser
tiou that every well conducted daily newspaper throughout the whole length and breadth of tho land makes
almost daily note of tho weather, cith er by a meteorological table or other
wise. Moreover, we arc almost daily
accosted with the enquiries,- "Have
you any news of water in the W
bash?" ; "Has there beca any rain up
there?" "Don't tie Terre Haute papers sy anything about it?' Harry Macarthy Coming. The
lovers of genuine rational amusement will be gratified to learn that Mr. Harry Macarthy and Miss Lottie Estelle will appear here on the uights
of tho 20;h and 30th Wednesday and Thursday iu their peculiar persona
tion concerts and mimic entertainments, which gave such universal sat
isfaction upon tho occasion of their
last visit to this city. Harry Macartby

A Bold Robbery Horse am Buggy Stolex. As daring a robbery 83 we have ever been called upon to record was committed about 8 o'clock la?t night. Daring fervices at the Vine Street Church two men were Eccc to drive off with the horse and buggy of M r. J. W. NexsenT which had been left hitched near the Church. When the services were ended and Mr. Nesscn, with his family, wore about ttr start home, it was discovered that the horse and .buggy were gone, and it was subsequently ascertained that two men had driven them off. The police were summoned by tapping the fire bell and diligent search was cade, but up to 11 o'clock no trace of the missing property had been found. Men on horseback started in pursuit, and it" is to be hoped tho facriligious kDaves will be overtaken and fcunt to the Penitentiary. It is an undeniabla fact that this city is infested with a horde of vagabonds men without visible means of support who never betake themselves to any honest employment, and who yet appear to live in good style. A cTo?e watch on these fellows by the police would, no doubt, result in gaining some of them steady employment iu tbe Stale Institution at Jeflersonvillc. ... Later Horse and Buggy' Recovered. A little before midnight Marshal Wunderlich, who with the who!; police force, had been in search, found the horse and bugsy on First Street, near Swanson's lumber yard. The thieves had, doubtless, become frightened at their own audacity, and abandoned .the ; stolen property. The horse was quietly making his way homeward. It is to bo hoped the thieves will be a? readily found.
Not Well Posted. WTe clip the followirg from tho Courier of Sunday morning; . . ' The Evansvi'.le Journal denies the correctness of the statement made in these columns In relation to a citizen of Evan3ville, who, it was alleged, had been frightened from his homo by the appearanco of one more wife than tho law allows. We had our information very directly from a person of undoubted veracity. To avoid the possibility of doing harm toaDy innocent party, wo did not mention the names of the acou-ied. Terre- llXute Express. ' ' ' ' ' ' ' The Journal did not deDy the correctness of the statement made by the Exprtss. The, Courier made eoaie corrections iu rezard to the statement made. by the Express, the principal correction being that tho man referred to was not a citizen of Evansvillc. The Express was correct on the "main question." It would have been as easy for the Express to have given credit to the proper eourco for press processes to tie, and it ought to be, a lair paper. Ecamville Courier. If the local of tho Courier will examine the Journal of Friday morning he will find tho correction of which the Express pcaks, and if he will examine his own piper of Thurs

has not been all; to discover any foundation for the false report palmed

the invention of malice.
