hour, and proceeded to business. The
morning devotional exercises were conducted by Prof. A. M. Gow. The following beautiful words were sung

He spoke of the great necessity of raising the standard of qualifications, lie also continued his instructions in Grammar. Prof. Knight occupied a half-hour iu making some general remarks about country schools. Ilobbs occupied an hour in delivering a, J lecture on "'Physiology! He stated the reasons why it was in 4

Ncwburg, on Thursday night, broke
out in Commercial Block, Water
Street, and that two buildings of the
block were burned. Mr. nazen and
Frank BetUcll were large losers
Bethell was insured for $3,000 in the Home of N:W York. Weed & Glass
suffered lieavy - loss 6u 1 stock, and
were insured in Undetwriters for

Poison. Mrs. Crowel, who is some what notorious, was arrested yester
day evening on the charge of attempt

last night before Justice MoTernan, and Mrs. Crowel was bound over in

will go far towards showing that the husband of the lady attempted to be poisoned and Mrs. Crowel havo been on terms of criminal intimacy for some time, and that the deed waa connived at by him.
