secure ngro votes; votes which never
could have been placed in the ballot-
box, but for the weakness ot tbe "Senator from Vanderburgh." The Democracy could have contribute'd millions of posta&a stamps, to avert so diie a calamity. Wliy the Doctor did not resign, is a question which he will doubtless answer when he gives an account; ol his stewardship to the Democratic Central Committee. Can it be, ;that the Doctor so far distrusted the "dear people as to doubt the certainty of his re-election? Is it possible that be keot bis seat because he knew
that once banished from the Senatorial Chamber, he would return no more?
Wa3 this the reason, or was the gifted Senator a member of the Morgan Kaid Ring, and interested in the "corruption fund," the disbursement of which is to be investigated by a Senatorial Committee? Whatever the reason may be, the cheering fact remains that he is still our Senator, and will represent us in the next General Assembly. What more can we ask?
