We have heard a great many versions of the affair, but give the following as the facts in the case, after sifting the whole matter. - It soems that Smith was on a spree, and ha 1 been quite noisy for some lime before the row occurred, and had been engaged in a fuss at the bar a short time before, iu which he had got knocked down by some person, whose name we could not ascertain. He finally irot into an ante room, where some gentleman was asleep, and another gentleman attempting to wake him, Smith interfered, and a quarrel ensued. Smith drew his revolver and the other man got into a scuffle with him, daring which the revolver was fired oif, the ball entering tho wail, and the revolver failing on the floor. Smith's crponent then picked tip a chair and struck bin: with it, breaking his skull with the blow. It is thought Ly tho physicians to be doubtful if 'he survives, but a? he was a . stout and hearty man, the chances are in his favor. The gentleman who struck him was arrested, but was discharged by the Recorder. It is a melancholy rffair, and Smith is said to bo a quiet, pleasant gentleman when sober. Recorder's Court.
