.'TJiofr ' Prayer Meeting.
prayer meeting at the Baptist Church Saturday morning was one of tho most pleasant and profitable of the week. Short and pointed remarks were made by Rev. Mr. Martin and Rev. Mr. Andru. The following touching petitions were found in the box prepared for tho purpose: - " A young man, now sick, and for whose recovery there is little ground to hope, asks the prayers of this Association that he may be restored to health, if it bo God's will, but especially that he may hs enabled to embrace tho Saviour with his whole heart. He is humble and penitent, but has not yet found peace in believing. He ia searching the Scriptures and longing for salvation. Brethren, pray for hi ml "A Pastor." " A father asks the prayers of this meeting for the conversion of his son." "A husband and father has been long intemperate. His terrible passion for drink has gained such power over him that all human help is vaia. The wife and mother, in her deep sorrow, pleads for the prayers of this meeting, that God may, in his rich mercy interpose to save , the husband an l father from ruin." Presented by the Pastor of the distressed wife. Stealing a Coat. Early Saturday morning, a saddle-colored individual named Jame3 McKinney, in whose veins flows the blood of the chivalry, while passing down Water Street, becarie enamored with a : nice j coat which Harry Joneph.'or his assistant, had hung out to - attract custom. James eyed, the glossy integument, and then took a survey, of the surroundings. Seeing no one about, he quickly threw himself inside the coat and walked off. . He was seen, however, and soon the police were on the trail, and James was hived. When arrested, he averred very emphatically that he had bought the coat in Louisville, but the plea would not work. Tho result of his speculation in clothing will be found under the head of "Recorder's Courts ' To si Thumb at the Opera House. The exoitement relative to those extraordinary specimens of the genus 7wwof Gen. Tom Thumb and wife, Commodore Nutt and Minnie Warren,' increased on Saturday, and in the afternoon a vast crowd of ladies and children attended their levee at the Opera House- which was densely packed. The entertainment washighly pleasing and amusing. The dignified bearing of the General attracted much admiration,, and every heart was won by the elegance and intelligence of the diminutive ladies. Commodore Nutt's droll representations kept the house in a roar. His rendition of ' Captain Jinks, of the Army " was realy superb and elicited vehement applause. At night the house was again crowded.
