SKSA.vTiONsaod'no7lUes in religion are becoming quite fashionable. Any--thing " to draw seems to be the rule -1 in.Bome quarters. Tj -it s '. . Packard's JIoxTnLV, for November lat, contains an artiole by Oliver Dyer, cntitloil "What Sends Young People to the Devii?" It is si narra Ji tive of i I tome of; the features of vicious life in the metropolis.""" "An editorial srUth; in the New York c-un says: "If ii, -.(tho .article aforesaid), were only read and pondered, as "it ought to.be, by .every parent in the ' laud, more icouTl lc 3 fine ti hreak ? Ihejiower of Hi Satanic Mj:-$'y than all the prayer me tings cvk r hJl." This surely is reversing the estimation in which irayer has ' hetfn s held fur nineteen centuries by Christian peo pie. But the sentiment, blasphemous as it is, has received the highendam: ' ment of Bucher's Chapel the Bethel of Plymouth Church, on Hicks Street, Brooklyn. The foregoing remark has

been placarded upon the wail ot that "Bethel " in large typo, and thus has

the approbation ot Plymouth Uhurcli I and Soeiaty.' More- than this, its spirit is being carried out in a series' of Lectures, medical, scientific, etc., delivered in the "Bethel," on Sunday evenings. If the spirits of Voltaire and Paine are present they will please signify it! The present divisions and secessions among many protectant communions, separated by almost invisible lines, is beinz more and more felt to

-be a grievous evil. This is evidenced

by Bundry " unions and temporary " susoensions of hostilities, " and

amicable hand-shakings. Something like an organic UDity, it is believed, will yet supercede the strife and clamor of a broken and disordered Christianity. The bad logic which onco tried to justify this sect principle, gives way to l,or.-l f.irtt. Conscience is not pleaded

as it once was. Good people talk about no essential differences," "charity" toward every shade of opinion, &c. It is quite a favorite expression to speak metaphorically about . " going to heaven by different roads; that is all." So, Scripture and necesBity are no longer the reasons urged for Christian divisions on the part of those who have helped it. Men feel that division is weakness, and unless grounded on principle and conscience is .inexcusable. Ilenee, says the Mctltodtet, " this question. of union is being forced upon sects and Churches by events and sympathies which they cannot control, and the party which eaysN' most loudly to-day, will gladly accept overtures to-morrow." ON Sund&y, the 17th instant, the congregation ol Grace Church, Brook

lyn Heights, cohfributed more than

eight thousand 'dollars to Missions at the Offertory. This n said to be the

largest missionary collection ever made in this country. It was, also, bomx fide in every respect, r.ot a word having been naid or a pledge piven beforehand. Ile. Dr. Hoffman is the Rector.
