Short addresses encourag ing a missionary spirit and labor, by Luke Wood, , Eq., the Pastor, Rev. Mr. Kumler, and perhaps others, will be madd. Parents and other members ' of the Church and congregation, and Sunday School friends in general, are invited. ' ".' Rsllgious Intelligence. The recent visit of the Chinese Embassy to this country, headed by one of our own citizens, is regarded as an important event in s missionary aspect, as it foreshadows the friendly and intimate relations which, through the mighty thoroughfare of trade, must rapidly spring up between us and that ancient Empire. The Em bassador states that the Protestant Missionaries are regirded with growing favor on the part of the Chinese Government, and that the Prime Minister at Pekin has expressed the dosire that they should oome to tho country in greater numbers, as they were only engaged in doing gcod. Bishop Williams, of the Episcopal Mission there, reports seven ordained Missionaries, eleven assistants, fivo schools, one hundred and seventeen confirmations, and more than $1,000 contributed by the natives themselves Lutheran. A few weeks ago, the Wisconsin Synod, which forms an integral part of the General Council, .and fully sympathized with Ohio and Iowa at Fort Wayne, although not to the extent of withdrawing from the Council, formally and solemnly declared itself in favor of close communion and non-interchange of pulpits, as in accordance with the doctrine and practice of the Luthern Church. One of the best jokes of tho day is the recent lecture of the Rev. Father Hecker, of the Pauliat fraternity, in which he attempted to show that Romnnism is the best religion for a Republic. As one evidence that Popery is not;nnfavorabIe to civil liberty, ho informed his hearers that Roman -Catholics obtained from the tyranf King Jo'hn that foundation document of civil liberty, the Magna Lharta. As a specimen of those things "true to the ear and false to the sense," this is pretty good. It is 'well known that the English Bishops and- Barons chiefly the former forced from the cowardly King this precious document; and for that act every man ' of them was excommunicated by the- Fope, who declared the 'charter null and void, and John vxxs abtoh ed from hi$ oath to keep it. Oa

m. i.-.i "In thft cent puuuCU .. . name or Aimigruy xou, ... : the Son, and the Holy Uuost, ana Dy thft authority of the blessed Apostles, Potpr and Paul.and our own, and with the advice of our Council, we wholly repudiate and condemn this thing, prohibiting, under penalty of anathema; tho said King from observing it, and his Barons and their accomplices from requiring him to observe it, aswell as the Charter, as its obligations and provisos, and declaring them for all time invalid" ' Of course this annulling of Magna Charlah&i never been revoked. The Pope being "in fallible? lio cannot recall his curse, and true Romanists are bound to second him. It. stands in history pronounced forever invalid. This is ike claiming liberty of worship in thia country, as a- Romish invention because "Roman Catholic Maryland allowed if? when tho real fact is, the Charter of that colony was given by the Protestant , King, of - Protestant England. . who demanded the said liberty." - Twentv-fiiffht ladies. . members of th Congregational Church of Elmwood, have seceded, because denied the right of taking part in Church meetings. It is said that the English Wesleyan Conference has refused to accede to the request of the Canadian Confer ence to appoint Rev. Mr. Panshon President of its next Assembly, and that his name will be dropped fr.om the legal hundred next year. This, it is repotted, is owing to his mar riage with his deceased wife's sister, which he tould not legally consum mate in Eagland, and therefore came to America to do. The " Western Christian, Advocate, the organ of the M. E. Church in this part of the country, is to begin the next volume in an enlarged form. Persons subscribing now for the year 1869, will receive the remaining num bers of the present year without ad ditional charge. . lhe Advocate is improving, we think, in vigor and zeal, and we doubt not next year it will prove second to no paper in the West in influence and popularity. Rev. D. R. M'Anally, D.D., who, since J.851, has been editor of the St. Louis Cliristian Advocate, of the Church South, has resigned the edi torship, and has taken up his resi dence in Carondelet, Mo. The Spanish Rivoi.UTiON.--We referred : last week to the re ligious and educational aspects of the Spanish," Rovolution, which, it appears, has been almost a bloodless and successful one. - The Government of the United States was the first of the foreign powers to recognize the revolutionary authorities, and for this act has been applauded by every lover of liberty and free government. The following article from the leading or gan of the Catholic Church in the West, will show "the spirit of that church: ! ' From tbe Cincinnati Catholic Telegraph. Contemptible. We cannot, without grave danger to our soul, neglect any portion ,of the Christian people, which, as having been redeemed by the precious blood of our Saviour, and added to 'the Lord's flock by the sacred waters of baptism, rightfully claims all our watchfulness. Wherefore, as we are bound to bend unceasiDgly all our thoughts and desires to procure the salvation of all who know and adore Jesus Christ, we turn our eyes and our fatherly thoughts to those churchos which of yore, when united by the bouds of unity with this Apostolic See, flourished in such credit for sanctity and heavenly learning, and produced rich fruits of Divine glory and of the salvation -of souls; but which now, by the nefarious arts and devices of him who first stirred up schism in heaven, exist, to our great grief, in a state . of. separation and division from the commnniontof the Holy Roman Church which is spread over the whole world. For this reason, at tho very beginning of our Supremo Pontificate, we spoke to you words of peace and charity with our whole hoart's love.
