A St. Louis dispatch dated the 2d says a dispatch of yesterday says fifty Indians appeared on Monument Creek, eight miles above Colorado City this morning, and drove off one hundred horses retreating toward Bayou Basin, with their plunder, and were followed by a small force of volunteers, sent to intercept them. General Sherman, at Fort Sandoers thinks the Indians are going for Ash Hollow. General Sheridan has sent an active force of cavalry to the head of Beaver Creek and the Republican River, under Colonel Forsyth. There are about two hundred and fifty Colorado Volunteers now in the field. A dispatch dated at Cheyenne, the 1st, says: A large force of Indians are coming toward North Platte from Caiche [sic] La Poudrie [sic] with a largo herd of stolen stock. Two companies of cavalry left Fort Russel this morning to cut them off. The United States mail coach, for Fort Laramie, which left here this morning, was attacked at noon and the ranch burned while the passengers were dining, and one man killed. Company E, of the Twentyseventh United States Infantry, General Bradley in command, has gone thither.
