IMPORTANT MOVEMENTS IN THE SOUXd! The Democrats for Negro"" Suffrage Follilcal Eanalltr of JilgSCTS Dd White Hen. From the Charleston Newr, Aug. 15. Wo are dad to see from our et chaoses in the various Southern States that the freedmen are at , last awake to the folly of trusting the pack of shiiiless and unprincipled adveo ttirers who bave heretofore been their party leaders. Colored Democratic emb? ore being formed m all portions of tfce country, addresses from leadin? colored Democrats are scattered abroad, and the nesro is at last find in? out that his best friend is the white man with whom ha has been broncht nn. and with whose infrpata he must in the future be identified.' BOUTTI CAROLINA. 1 . In Charleston, thoueh little has hcen dono publicly, the colored Dem ocratic clubs are in a flourishing con dition. The Ward No. 6 club at one timo numbered atout five hundred members, but many of these have now joined the club of the ward in which they live. In wards Nos. 3 and 4 there are also colored clubs, and iu a short timo there will be one in crtch ward of the city. At least one thou-' sand colored Democrats may now be counted on. They - are v. respectabje men, and have joined the Democratic iarty from a conviction tha6 Kidiealism is the only road to ruin.' Altogefner, the movement shows encour-' ajiirg elements of strength and pros' perity. . " Throughout the State the change of sentiment anions the f reedmea is even more decided, as the statements published from time to time in our columns will hava shown. There is hardly a district in the State that does not boast ouo or more Democratic club, and the disaffected members of the Union leagues are daily , coming over. .. ..: NORTH CAROLINA. i-I (. .. Burton McNoI, a highly respectabh: colored mat, of Salisbury. N. U., "n out in a eird severing his connection with the Radical party, declaring H 'f' for Seymour and Blair-and advist g his friends to "do likewise." . n : nearoes of Hopewell, Meek lcnt.ur County, N. C, have formed a. Democratic club. A large number havejrned it, and they have officers of their own. ' The Turboro' (N. C.) Southerner states that S .nrly Long, "of Halifax, and Eaton Rob'nson, both colored men, and recently appointed magis trates ;n their respective counties by the man " who writes himself Governor." hava thrown tho appointment back in his face with disgust. A Radical having lectured a Wilmington negro, on account of his having allied himself to the Democratic partv. the African returned answer: "Under your teaching : we have alienated from us the mass of. the white people, North as well a? South ; you have eot the offices and emoluments, while wo have dono the work and stand out in tho cold. For one, I am done with you." " V! GEORGIA. ,...: At a large Democratic meeting at Harlan, (la., on tho 8th, which was addresad by several noted Southern speaker, a large number of colored Democrats were present, proudly displayinir o i their apparel Seymour and lilair bridges. , ... ALABAMA. On the Gth instant, a meeting "of colored people was held in Mobile for Ihf mirpo-io of org itrziog a Democratic n?,.k vi, if ....,.,". iu . i4M. x lie jtyi.ir(r rctij a . The mating was called to order by Colonel C. A. It. Dimon, who, in a brief and patriotic address, explained the obiect of tho assemblage, ar.d expressed to them his views in regard to their social and political status. An interchange of sentiment led to the conclusion that tho colored people have at last found out who their true friends are. There was held recently at Demon-oli.-, .Via., a Seymour and Blair ratifuntion meeting attended almost exclusively by negroes, and addressed by four white men and the following black speakers: Jim Westbrook, Jack Lee, Reuben Ryan, Sandy Cameron, Wm Roberts and Jul Armstrong. JDeph E. Williams, a Tennessee colored o-ator, is stumping Alabama for the Democracy. ; LOUISIANA. Xou'siana papers state that the colore! Dotnocrauy are aliye and at work throughout tho State. - The Alexandra (Ripides) Democrat! fays: " It h no "so any longer disguising the fact patent to all that the colored Democracy of Rapides is now a fixed institution, alive, wide-awake, iu real dead earnest, and with a local habitation and i name. Not content with the Lsmothe barbecue, they irot ui a ball a rausini ball -on- Saturday night. We must candidly a 1 rait tha? thi- element of the Democratic party of Rapides is far ahead of any new organization we ever witnessed before iu our parish." A meetinarof the Democratic colored men of Algiers was held on the f)'h inst. Thomas P. Sherburne, Chairman of the Committee on Freedmen's Clubs, called the meeting to order. He stated the object of the meetios? was to organize a Democratic Colored Club, and he was happy to sec so many ot tnc colored : citizens present. It proved tha: if the colored mm was allowed to act in accordance with tho dictates of his mind e w.iuld d what was right. Tae w 1 ineness of the colored man to join the Democratic party, proved that Democratic doctrines were more geuerous than those of the Radical plunderers; After a few brief remarks,; Mr. Sherburne took his seat, amid cheers from the colored men. The meeting organized by appointing the following colored men as their officers: Riley AKen . President: WilliamSherburne, first Vic-President; Joe. Griffin, second Vice-President, The New Or eans Crescent says: "The officers chosen are the leadin colored men of the plaee, and will, in a short time, bring in a host of their friends to the support of Seymour and Blair. This club bids fair to be one of the largest in tha Stite." Previous to adjournment, William Sherburne, the first Vice President, was lustily called for by the club for a speech. He alluded to the dead issues the Radicals were constantly harnirar about, but th triumph Oi the Democrats improved the colored people's condition, while Radicals robbed the country and destroyed their happiness. Carpet-baggers had nothing at stake nor nothing to lose. The colored men don t intend to let t.hm fiil their carpet bags if they can help it. With a cheer for Seymour and Rlair and the speaker, the meet ing adjourned. MISSISSIPPI. At a Democratic meeting held at

resolutions adopted were the follow in?! . il. As citizens of Mississippi, we de clare that it is our purpose to confer impartial sunrage on all men. irre ppective of color, and to place all men oa terms of equality, before toe law fio that life, liberty and property, may be equally assured to all. ' s. I hat our tLanlcs are due to our colored friends, who, actuated by a sense of justice and patriotic duty.co operated with us in the late election in defeating tbe oppressive and in iquitous; constitution,! - framed .by ptrflncern and common enemies to them- and ourselvei. They deserve well of the country, and their services will ever b gratefully appreciated Jy all men who have a due regard lor equal rights and constitutional gov ernment. , A A. n TKn .a on ocidence and testi mnnt'ol nnr pstcm and good will fnr than, nd the value of their noble aid in a just cause and patriotic prin ciples, and as farther token ol Iriend shin and union in support of the Dem Dies, we tender to them a public barbecue at this place on tbe rourtn oaturaay oi August, 4. That such of our colored people who voted the Radical ticket, or stood neutral, and hava since renounced and joined the Democratic party, or now wish to renounce and join, and all who entertain a friendly feeling for us ana our cause, are respectfully id vited to meet and participate witn us in said barbecue.- - ; i - - 5. That it should be our duty, and should be the duty and pleasure of all person?, in the bestowal oi employ ment. places and patronage to the colored people, frankly to prefer and give the same to those who are our personal and political mends, and to cheer and animate them to lives of usefulness; respectability; and; prosperity, and in no wise to give aid and comfort to our Radical enemies, who seek to prostrate us and liberty, and give dominion to our political adver saries. .,... 6.. That we invite all good-meaning and well-disposed colored people to oin the Conservative and Democratic party, and assure them, as well as all who have joined,' that all their legal rights shall, to tbe extent of our ability, ever be respected, sustained and protected, an J that they can safely trust us to do them every justice and right in every emegsncy. , Mississippi journals state that the colored Mississippians, since the late elections, are going over e masse to the Democrats, la a single county. one thousand of them have produced certificates of membership in Demo cratio clubs, and leel tar freer -and prouder ' than 'they ever did as the slaves of scalUwag "poor white trash." A millenium of good feeling between the races in Mississippi is dawning as tho result of this state of things. . TEX A 8. , ; A number of Democratic negro clubs have been formed in Eastern Texas, and , colored orators, it is stated, are doing efficient work among the treedmen. At a barbecue at Independence, Washington County, the B re o ham Banner says there were at least three hundred negroes present, who listened with great interest to the speeches, and many of them, before leaving the ground, "declared their determination to adhere to their white Southern friends, and vote the Democratic ticket." The Banner is convinced that with very little effort, nine-tenths of all the negroes in the State can bo converted to the Democratic faith. A colored Democratic club has been formed at Houston, which holds regular weekly meetings. The speakers are unanimously in favor of Seymour aud Blair, and state generally that they are proud of the opportunity to unite with the only party that had any claims upon the blacks, and could and would benefit their race. !3P CLOCKS.
