There was but littlo work consummated in the Recorder's Court yesterday, though considerable was laid out. The boys against whom a warrant was issued, on Monday evening, for malicious trespass and larceny, by breaking divers and sundry windows, including the show windows of Ahlering and Ilassler, and stealing from the latter four cakes and a drum of figs, were arrested by the City Marshal. Their parents promised to have them in Court at one o clock yesterday af ternoon.. The father of one of. the boys kept his promise, but the other two men came up without the young hopefuls, saying that the boys had slipped off from them. The cases were continued until the other three boys can be found, and who, when again in custody, will not be allowed an opportunity to " slip off." George Riley, an Ethiopian, for an assault and battery on Charles John son, another son of Africa, was fined $1 with $4 50 costs. Uubert JUorc charged two men, whose names we did not ascer tain with having insulted his wife. and assaulting and battering him ITe boro irrefragible . testimonials that he had been battered. One of the accused parties appeared in court, but Gilbert was not right clear that he was the batterer, and he was discharged, but His Honor had a suspicion that the prosecuting witness had been bought off, and hinted as much to him, though he stoutly denied it Jennie -Jaekson filed, an affidavit against Jane Mathews, Caroline Young, and another African female, for disturbing the peace. A warrant was issued, and the City Marshal started out late last evening in search of them Deusner filed an affidavit against a well-known business firm, charging that they had refused to allow him, as City Inspector of Coal Oils and Burning Fluids, to inspect some twelve the firm put in an appearance, with Gen. Shackelford as attorney. Shackelford moved to quash the affidavit, for the reasons that it did not charge any offense laid down in the ordinance, and because that Deus that the Inspector shall be appointed in . May, whereas his commission showed he had been appointed in June. The Recorder overruled the motion to quash, and took under advisement the question of the validity of Deusner's appointment. This is the first case tried under the ordinance, and it will, doubtless attract some attention. TriE Orphans Picnic;.
