Gus. Dusouehet stopped off at Cairo, and expected to come through by rail The Ada Lyon wa loaded to the guards with tobacco, grain, &c, and had over 100 passengers ..The Hob Roy had a fair trip out The J. 1'. Webb was nearly full, and was smoking at noon, preparatory to her departure. Another of the new Government snag boa's passed down Saturday morning. It is to be hoped that they will add greatly to the safety of navigation Several large rafts passed down the river on Saturday. ItoatM Leaving- Toliiy. For Cairo. The light-footed Quickstep, Capt. II. T. Dexter, is the regular and uurivaled packet for Cairo and all way ports at 4 o'clock to-day. Her cabins and state rooms are as .pleasant as a lady's boudoir. Capt. Dexter 13 one of the most experienced officers on the Ohio, and Jack Grammer and Walter U. Pennington are hr pleasant and obliging clerks. Fort Lotttsville. The magnificent Morning Star, Capt. A. T. Gilmore, a really magnificent gentleman, leaves at 10 a.m. to-day for Louisville and all way ports. John Ouerbacker and Dick Hutchinson, are her distinguished clerks, and - ara proverbial for strict attention to duty and polite attentions to passeugers and shippers. The new, tleet aud magnificent Mayflower is also announced for Louisville at 12 o'clock to-day. There is do better or more elegantly appointed boat afloat. Capt. J. V. Throop commands, and Capt. Gus. Lemcke, is in charge of the otfice. : For Henderson. The Mollie Norton, an e'egant side-wheel steamer, leaves for Ileuderson at 3 o'clock. Mr. Grubbs, her clerk, is one of the most elegant and accomplished clerks afloat. CilemtliiK from onr Excli'itf e. Cincinnati The Commercial of Friday says: The Stern-wheel steamer Starlight was burued, at Algiers, opposite New Orleans, yestcrdav morning, where she was laid up. She had beet: plying iu the Opelousas trade. The Starlight is owned by Captaiu Ren. F. Davidson, of Cincinnati, and insured here tor $12,000. The Pine Uluif suuk some time since, in Licking lliver, and raised and repaired, made a trial trip yesterday. Her name has beeu changed to the Eudora. The. Gaztttc says: An improvement in the business on the wharf yesterday over the day before was noticeable. Still, it was dull. Everybody can see that the river business of Cincinnati has fallen off this year, an i that it is the dullest experienced here for many years. Oneof the great causes of this is the great scarcity of money in the South wherewith to purchase goods. TW muut nt t-i , , Tttuarl" Ut l ' ijl v VJ
-The Csurrr of Friwhich left Pittsburg Tuesday, having in tow four barges of coal f r the ; towboat Lake Erie, Ij'ins at Sreub- avliie, Mink two i ncy will prove a total Ij-s. rly alter this accident, the Coil D'uff ran a barge, loaded with railroau iron, on the sunken coal bar.es, and sunk it. The iron will be recovered. The Journal says : The Mayflower has at last retired from the Evansville and Memphis trade for want of "food." How are you. Evansville? We thought business was so brisk in Evansville that she always sustained her packets. Like Louisville, we have too many packets, though we feed them better than Louisville does Lers. The last trip of tiie Mayflower to Memphis was as fine as ever left this port; and we believe, had she persevered, that she would have established, in a short time, a paying business. St. Louis. The Democrat of Friday says : River declining. Upper rivers likewise on the descending scale. Snow abuudant north of St. Paul. Weather pleasant. Pilot Young, of the Jennie Lewis, reports feet the lowest water in the Missouri below Lexington. It is at the Ronum Island and other places. Business is good. Freights stilt abundant on the upper rivers. One arrival from the Missouri had to refuse eight distinct offers at as many different points: Boouville, Rocheport, Frankfort, etc. The freight from the Ilawkeye States Sunken barge, on the Upper Mississippi, has aii been recovered and the damaged grain sold, the wheat bringing from two to three dollars and thirty cents per sack. . Memphis. The Avalanche, of Thursday, says: Weather clear and pleasant. The river here is gradually swelling, and has risen four and a half inches in the past twenty-four hours. The Arkansas is still receding, with eight feet in the channel from Little Rock out. White River is reported stationary. The wharf presented rather a gloomy aspect yesterday, with little movemeut in freights. There was little doing aside from the discharging of the CliftOD, which brought in a fair cargo of merchandise from Cincinnati. The Frank Pargoud cleared for Orleans with a light trip. The Empire passed down last night from Cincinnati, for the Arkansas River, with 450 tons of freight, which is a large cargo for that steamer iu these dull times.
