Forcljn ws. New Yo'ik. Atril 2. Tn accord ance w ith tlie notice issued ly Kiii ! v il'iHtTi of I ruswiH, now President of the r'wrtli GerBian CdD Jeration. 'he flag of the suited uaUOQulities wus hoisted on all German vessels ifi port yesterday. Koyal salutes were fired at the Hamburg and lircmun dock at the hauling uown of the old flag. The day wa9 observed by a general celebration. Sumptuous dinners were proTided on board the Borunsia, Union, and Comberia, at which toasts were riven to the new Confederation, King William, Count Bismarck, aud German commerce. The Herald's ppecial from Lake Oshong, Abyssinia, March lCth, via London, April 1st, says the advance brigade of the British army, under Napier, arrived at this point, on the march towards MagJala, to day. The difficulties of the expeditionary undertaking increase as we proceed. The country lor the most part is barren and inhospitable. The roads are very bad, and difficult to travel. The Datives are hostile to the British. An Abyssinian chief, who is encamped on the high table land near the troops, refuses to give food to the army on any terms. This chief dares General Napier to injure him. He sent a meBHage to Napier, saying that King Theodorua offers him a meeting. Another chief, who is friendly, tella Gen. Napier not to believe this assertion of the hostile chief. No forage can be had for cattle. The people say that the bad chiefs have already ruined the country, and that King Theodorua despoils the country far and wido. The desolation is universal. Gen. Napier's headquarters force is tlx days march from the Fortress of Magdala. Advices from Havana. Havana, April 1. Our advices from Nassau are to Monday last, March 30th. Serious riots are anticipated in consequence of the action of the Legislature relative to the Church disendowment. Their bill was finally passed by a majority of five votes, but the Executive Counsel vetoed the measure, thereupon the Assembly became indignant and sent a request to the Governor praying that lie would dissolve the Legislature, and order a new election. This be refused to do, as an appeal to the people would be fatal to the Government. It is probable that blood will be shed, sb the question has how become one between creeds, castes and colors, the Governor having id?utii':d li'uuf elf with the Church. The Liberals have drawn up an address to the Home Secretary, requesting coercion to enforce the will ot the L "gi-liture. Several members of both Ilmiscs'voted for the Church interests to save their eeats. As there is a lock iu tho Government machine, the Executive must dissolve the Legislatnre. The electioneering will be fpirited, and the highest officials assert a determination and readiness to shed t their blood rather than allow sectarians to defeat the Church. Thero are no men-of-war at Nassau now. Smuggling from Florida m openly winked at. , - Sergeant Hates at Kalelzb. Raleigh, N. C, April L Sergeant Bates, carryiug the flig, arrived here this morning. He was received by the Mayor and Commissioners, and was tendered the hospitality of the city. He wai repeatedly cheered, and C. M. Bustee, an ex Confederate soldier, delivered a short address of welcome. ,. The Indian Peace ( ommNslon. St. Louts, April 2 An Omaha dispatch, ot yesterday, says: Generals Sherman, Sheridan, Terry, Harney and Forsythe arrived with the Indian I'eace Commission this evening. They will commence. a session to-morrow. Gen. Sherman received a telegram summoning him to Washington immediately, to testily before the Impeachment Court. Commissioner 'lay lor, President of the Commission, is expecttd here to-morrow. Cheyenne papers publish an exaggerated account of the Indian trouble between that place aud Fort Laramie, claiming that the Indians are on the war path, and burning rauches and destroying property. There is a report that Butler's llanche, near Fort Laramie, was burned, and the stock driven away last week, but the military authorities here have no confirmation of it. Fires. Portland. Vr., April 2 A fire this morning destroyed the Frauklin House, County Court House, O a ens' store, Stafford's store, and a building formerly occupied by Chaffs & Harper. Loss $40,000; partially iiisuiid. lwo cr three persons were injured getting out of the hotel. Milford, Mass., April 2. A fire this morning destroyed Underwood's largo Boot Manufactory. Stock and Extures mostly saved. It is supposed to he the work of an incendiary. Loss $2.",0O0; mostly iusured. The New Tax Bill. s:iiNiTON, April 2. The new tax bi!! will nit contain any provision altering the existing rates of tax on tobacco, all reports to the contrary notwithstanding. Writing Inks. Carter's quarts, SI 00; Arnold's quarts, $1 00; Butler's oii'irts, Too. at Jcurxal Office.

Thin hair ia thickened, falling hair checked, and baldness often, though not always, cured by its use. NothiDg can restore -the hair where the folli-1 cles are destroyed, or the glands atrophied and decayed. But such as remain can be saved for usefulness by this application. . Instead of foaling the hair with a pasty pediment, it will keep it elean and vigorous. Its occasional use will preventthe hair from turning gray or falling off, and consequently prevent baldness. Free from those deleterious substances which make some preparations daneerous aod injurious to the hair, the "Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely for a , nothing else can be found so desirable. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does not soil white cambric, and yet lasts longer on the hair, giving it a rich glossy lustre and a grateful perfume. rKKPAB.ED BY DR. J., C.
