The mercury at 6 A. m. stood at 34 above zero, and at 38 at Boon. The river had fallen 13 inches during the twenty-four hours ending at 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. The river was almost clear of ice in front of the city, except what had lodged on the Lar. The bay inside the bar forms an excellent harbor, and is entirely clear of ice. A slight rain prevailed during the forenoon, with Bigns of clearing up at noon. Arrival ftiul lparf nret. ' There was a considerable degree of animation, on .the levee Saturday, with a considerable fleet of boats in port, several destined for ports above as soon as navigation is . resumed The St. Patrick was busy discharging her magnificent tjrip, and the Armada was receiving largely for her out trip. .The gallant Armada steamed through the ice 1 in Dutch Bend like a giant rushing to battle, and arrived on time. There is nothing like having nerve and a good steamboat The Sam. Orr arrived yesterday at noon with 502 bales cotton, and a large amount of miscellaneous freight, the biggest trip ever brought out of Tennessee River. The Pink Varble followed her out with a very slim trip ... ...-The Rose Hamilton has considerable freight for Cincinnati, and will ; be up here till the ice yields to milder influence The Atlantic and - barga dropped down from Green River Saturday, and will go below........The Ollie Sullivan has laid up for the present .........The Cumberland, foil lowed the Armada through the gorge Saturday morning, came to the- lauding, and " litout" at 10 o'clock; taking little or no freight. This is but fair and honest, and is what each packet has a 'right to expect of each other, and when one boat gets behind, and cannot make it up in one trip, she should lie over till her regular turn. Honor, justice, and right principle demand this A very light streak of ice, in small lumps, was floating along the outside of the bar. The gallant Quickstep will be the regular mail and passenger steamer for Paducah, Cairo and all way ports to-day at 4 o'clock. She is well iron-clad, and has great powsr, prepared to give defiance to ice, .of which but little will be found below. Captain II. T. Dexter is her commander, and Jack Grammer and Walter B. Pennington are her courteous and obliging clerks. For Louisville. There will be no boat to Louisville to-day, unless the weather shall have moderated reatly and the ice loosened in the narrows, in which case the unrivalled Morning Star, with Captain E. P. T. Hollcroft, commanding, and John Ou.erback.er and Henry Mitchell, the distinguished clerks, in the office. For Eastport. The splendid and popular Sam. Orr, Captain Allen Duncan commanding, will leave this evening for Eastport and all .Tennessee River way landings. She has excellent passenger .appointments, and

United States, bound from Louisville for Cincinnati, with a large cargo, including 700 bales cotton, grounded at Warsaw, yesterday mornine, anl atone time was in danger of breaking in two,' Captain Whitten having teljcraphei here for assistance. Khe finally succeedei ia wortting ofif without material damage. The United States will return to Louisville this evening, ice permitting. The cold weather made ice fast yesterday. Several steamers, preparing to depart, were prevented from leaving by the: Underwriters, through their Surveyor, Capt. Wm. II. Pierce, notifying them they considered it UDsafe to navigate in the present ice. The people at Warsaw, Ky., were so tickled at the arrival of the C. T. Dumont at that place, Wednesday niuht, throngh he ice, that they complimented Captain David and his officers with a serenade from a brass band. Captain David is not afraid of ice or hard work. Captain, Yerkin says $12,000, not $10,000, is' the price to be paid for the Bertha, on the delivery to Captains Lawrence and Russell, at St. Louis, on her return from Arkansas River. Louisville. The Courier of Friday says: The cold weather and the low stage of water combined have caused a total suspension of navigation, and no boats left port yesterday. During the night previous quite a number of boats arrived, including the low pressure Kichmand, from New Orleans, with the Mary Davidge, the Mary Erwin and the llavaoa in her wake. The ice was very heavy in the Narrows and at Wolf Creek, and the Ilichmond had to break her way through by her weight and main force. The officers of the Mary Erwin

The weather continues to moderate. the mercury ranging from 34 to 52 degrees above zero, lhe wind was direct irom tne south until noon, when it changed to the west, and toards evenine was getting round to the north, with strong indications of snow. The rise in the river was sufficient to start the ice abreast of the city. About 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon it moved the distance of about six squares, when it again stopped, completely blockading the channel lately cleared by the Wiggens Ferry Company, catching three of their boats on the. Illinois side and two on this side. Fortunately there were no persona crossing at the time it moved. The ferry-boats were , busily engaged endeavoring to clear a channel opposite the foot of Carr Street, but up to a late hour last evening without success. . STEAMBOATS.
