The weather yesterday morning was intensely cold, the murcury resting at 12 above zero at six A. M. and 2G at noon.. .The river had s fallen fifteen inches during the twenty-four hour3 ending at three o'clock yesterday, and there 13 not over seven feet water on the bars hence to Cairo. The river was full of large fields of heavy ice yesterday, and ice was making all day, and begins to assume a formidable ap pearance. Unless a change ensues, navigation will be seriously interrupted. - - " i Arrival! and Deparlnren. Among the first boats due here are the Delaware and Pine Grove, for Nashville; Shamrock, for St. Louis; Cora S., St.' Patrick, and Clifton, from Memphis ; Silver Moon, for Memphis;, Nick Longworth, Richmond, Amazon, and Louisville, for New Orleans; Cumberland, from Cairo; Dexter, Great Republic, P. Business was extremely dull yesterday, the heavy ice causing (great delay to boats, and the low stage of the, river aIso operating unfavorably.... The Quickstep had a light freight, but a good passenger trip.-. .....The Empire, six miles below Henderson, about 9 o'clock Wednesday nightt broke a wrist and knocked out the after head of her. larboard cylinder. She worked her way here with one engine, and will lie up here to repair. She has 150 bales cotton for New Albany and Louisville, aud a large amount of hides, barley, 4c. Capt. Wes. Whitlow left by yesterday's afternoon, train for New Albany and Louisville. Harry Walker remains in charge of the beat. Capt. Whitlow has kad a succession of bad luck, and we hope that his luck will soon change The Mollie Norton had her spacious cabin crowded with passengers yesterday morning, and all were loud in praise of her excellent appointments Another night or two as cold as Wednesday night will well nigh suspend navigation above ' this point, and we shall not be surprised to-day to learn that the ice is gorged in the narrows about the mouth of Wolf Creek -The Quickstep left the great Republic at Cairo, and thinks she will not attempt to come up till the weather and water improves.........The Laurel Hill, in attempting to get in to a corn pile, a few miles below here, got aground, Wednesday night, and was helped off by the St. Charles -The St. Patrick will be in to-day from Memphis, and leave4 to-morrow, positively. BMtn Lexvluic To-Iiy. For Cairo. The fine fleet Cumberland, Captain Ben. Howard, is the regular and sole packet for Cairo and all way landings to-day, and will leave at 4 o'clock P. M. She has splendid passenger appointments. Her chief officers, Captain Ben. Howard, Tom. Brashear and Bruce Hunter, rank among the most pleasant and accomplished gentleman navigating the beautiful Ouio; For Memphis. Captain Ben. Merriellees's great ice king, the beautiful Silver Mood, may be expected this forenoon en route to Memphis. She is a magnificent boat, and Capt. Merrilleea and Mr. Carter, his clerk, are noted for their fine social qualities and great courtesy to passengers and shippers. For Clarksville. The beautiful Linton, Captain Nat. Drew, with the elegant N. B. Hay ward in the office, is the regular packet for Clarksville to-day. She has pleasant appointments, and we hope to see her go out full. She leaves at 4 p. m. ( For Henderson. The fleet and beautiful side-wheel steamer Mollie Norton,, Capt. : Charley Perkins.'with , Ed. Terry, a highly obliging gentleman, in the office, goes to Henderson promptly at 2 o'clock to-day. Her cabin accommodations are excelled by but few boats on the Ohio.
The spr'ghtly Newsboy, Capt. Shefferwith Willie Huston in the officeT also goes to Henderson at 3 o'clock'. The Newsboy is a great favorite iu the Henderson trade, and her officers are courteous and obliging. For New Orleans. The great low-pressure steamer Richmond, one of the most splendid and complete steamers ever built, may be expected this evening for New Orleans and all way ports. Her cabin appointments are unsurpassed by any steamer afloat, her staterooms beiDgall spacious parlors, furnished with all the modern comforts and convenienciel. She is low-pressure, carrying but thirty pounds of steam, which precludes the possibility of explosion. Her chief officers, Captain J. Stut Neal, John Woolfolk and Robert Lodge, are universally known r and esteemed as among the first navigators of the age The Express Line's splendid packet Amazon, Captain Vinton, May be expected here to-day from Cincinnati, for .New Orleans, and is a finely appointed and staunch steamer; Habbs,

Vernon; 6th Passed Empire at Henderson, with larboard engine broken. Our consignees are T. J. Phelps, 1 hhd. rope; Lanphear & Mitchell, 1 box hats ; Miller, Gardner & Co., 1 package money; Stockwell & Co., 6 packages merchandise; Rink Miles, 1 box butter; Anton Walter, 59 bags potatoes; R. K. ' - Business in the vicinity of the landing remains suspended, and ia likely to continue iu that way until we have a resumption of navigation. Several of the boats at the landing have the largest portion of their cargo on board., All of course are anxious to get away. The Yorktowu smcceeded in reachisg Glass-House and is laid up for milder weather and more water. Cincinxati. The Commercial of Wednesday says: The mammoth steamer Clara Dolsen, burned at St. Louis Mondav night, was built at Cincinnati, in January, 186L, by Capt. Wm. T. Dunning and A. P. Stewart, and then valued at $50,000. She was a large and excellent steamer, having capacity for 937 tons, Customhouse measurement. She was down South during the rebellion, and captured in White River by Admiral Davis' Mississippi squadron, while under command of Capt. Riley Jones, and afterward purchased by Capt. Geo. Pegram, who owned her when burned.. She was last valued at $28,000 There is no insurance on the Clara Dolsen in Cincinnati offices. " Louisville. The Courier of Wednesday says : The ice in the harbor yesterday was much less formidable than on the day previous, though there was a good deal of it. The Jeffersonville ferryboats were persistently making their regular trips y sterday, though very much delayed by the running ice. The Indiana. We have announced the arrival of the Indiana at New Orleans. In reference to her getting aground at Island No. 2, the V icksburg Times of the 31st' ult. has the following, by which it will be seen that Capt. Cannon expects to realize heavy salvage from the mishap. At 4 P. M., the Indiana, released from her dangerous situation, arrived at the wharf. To the casual observer she appeared perfectly straight and In good condition, but in reality she is badly used up. Fron, her officers and thue of the Robert E. Lee, wbi'jh "packet arrived some two hours af:er the Indiana, we learn that the latter vessel was formally abandoned by Capt. Reuben E. Neal at two o'clock yesterday morning, after having tried all means his skill and experience could suggest to effect her release without success. Informing Captain Cannon of his decision, the latter took charge "of the Indiana as an abandoned vessel, and assumed the direction of 'all subsequent efforts to save her. After removiogthe eutire deckload and a large quantity of freight from her hold, a good head of steam was gotten, and, dropping back some twenty feet, the Lee took a surge at her. The Indiana moved. Most any thing less than a mountain would have done the same thing. By working at her in this way, and using the Indiana's engines to loosen the accumulated sand and mud, with one tremendous effort the desired object was at last accomplished the boat saved. Captain Cannon then placed his mate, Captain Tom Henthorn, in command of the Indiana, to continue in that capacity until the last mentioned vessel reaches New Orleans. The Democrat says: .
A Good Speculation. The owners of the Robert. Lee- .will make fully 50,000 salvage on the Indiana. This is a good speculation, and will more than pay the owners of the Lee tor the trouble, time and expense that they have gone to. We have a better opinion of Capt. John Connor than to believe that he will thus attempt to thus speculate on the misfortunes of a fellow-steam-boatman. St. j Louis. The Democrat of Wednesday says: The weather continues remarkably mild, and has effected the ice in the harbor to such a degree, that its early departure is considered a foregone conclusion. The ferry boats butted off some of the corners yesterday. The boats were crowded as usual almost to suffocation. Crossing on the ice had almost entirely ceased last evening. . The river was slowly rising. Everybody agrees in predictinga clear river to Cairo on or before March 1st.
