Stioson, who heki the; prisoner ts , bait in the sum of,f2,500.., Subsequently a change df'veaue was taken, and an argument as to the amount of bail required raised. Esq. Walker-fixed the amount at $lj000, and . the accused .gave bail for bis appearance for trial "next Friday.. Captai a Wil lard appeared for the prosecution and Gen. Shackelford for the defense. Frozen to Death. Yesterday morning a man was found dead in the lower part of this county, opposite Henderson. Coroner Havlin being notified, left with Frank Morris, to hold an Jnquest over the body. The examination elicited the fact that the deceased was named Thorn-, as Davidson, from Chiug6, where he leaves a. widow and two children. The verdict of the jury was that he had frozen to death. Ha had falleu over a' log, and ny with his head bent under him, and his feet "resting on the log. ? 5 . - -. ' , On their return to the city, the buggy In which they were riding broke downrie a'xle giving way,' tumbling Morris and Havlin out, bels. , over head in a pile, aud they were compelled to walk to town, a distance of six miles, having propped up the broken axle On a rail, and hauling the wheel in the buggy. They earned their fees.
Examination of a Select School. The semi-annual examination of the Select, School of Misses Hooker and Hough, was held on yesterday. That the . public fully appreciate the character of the school could be seen from the large number of visitors, especially in the, afternoon, when' the smaller classes had to be' dismissed, to afford a sufficient number of seats for ' strangers.
