The Lauisvule Journal wants its country readers . to ber cautiou,in sending live stock South at present. Prices are extremely-.iow there, and do not promise any improvement. Mules have been sold out at auction for $75 to $80 per head, fcbich-effsr in Kentucky $140 to $160. 4 A CORRESPONDENT of the Courier breaks ground gently for Geo. H. Pendleton as the next Democratic candidate for President, by printing a short biographical sketch of the distinguished gentleman. Such 'caution is unnecessary. Pendleton- i6 tbe man. The thing seems to be a forepone conclusion. Pentleton and 'Pudiation will be the next battle cry.
The little town of Dyersburg, Tennessee, is, in one. respect, an exception. It contains a very good weekly paper, and ; yet is actually without a shoemaker. The paper is employing its advertising facilities to obtain the latter, premising him tools and stock on tbe most liberal terms. .It is not often that the brains' of a town are looked after- before ' the feet are attended to.

Prussia is sail to be extremely anxious to learn the secret of the new Napoleon gun, which is said to possess a terribly destructive power. Prussian officers, disguised as workmen, attempted to gai Admittance to the.Frent-h armories at ' Toulon, - but werVdetected. by the' police and arrestedi;i Indiaahns will no doubt be gratified as-well as surprised.to learn that 'this' formidable weapon, which the French Emperor' guards so - jealously is nothing more nor less than the celebrated Gatlin. gun, , invented by a citizen of Indianapolis.1 - If we mistake not, it was styled the "coffee milgun," the bullets being placed in a kind of hopper, from whence they were thrown out with a velocity and rapidity that was truly terrifying. It -was supposed by maDy, however, that the. gun could never be made useful on the battlefield. While this might be the case in a wooded and broken country like ours, on the plains of Europe, it could hardly fail to prove a most formidable weapon.
